Mercedes has entered the electric sports sedan segment with the launch of the new AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. Underpinned by the company’s EVA2 electric platform, the EQS is Mercedes’ first purpose-built EV to come to India (the EQC is based on the GLC platform) and is currently available only as an AMG model till the launch of the standard sedan next month. We see how the all-electric AMG stacks up against the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Audi RS e-tron GT on paper.

In terms of size, the AMG EQS is notable larger than the Taycan Turbo S and RS e-tron GT. This could be down to the AMG EQS being a sportier derivative of the flagship EQS sedan while the Taycan and RS e-tron GT are both purpose-built sports sedans. The EQS sits taller than the Audi and Porsche with length and wheelbase too being notably larger. The EQS is over 200 mm longer than the Porsche and Audi while its wheelbase is a little over 300mm longer.
The EQS is also the heaviest model of the three with a kerb weight in excess of 2.6 tonnes. The Taycan by comparison is the smallest and lightest model here.

All three models feature dual electric motor set-ups with one each running the front and rear axles. On paper, it’s the Taycan Turbo S that is that offers the best mix in terms of performance. With launch control active, the Porsche develops as much power as the AMG EQS but with 30Nm more torque. Factored in with its lower weight Porsche claims a 0-100 kph time of just 2.8 seconds. The Audi is the least powerful model here though its weight advantage too seems to have an effect on the 0-100kph time. The Mercedes however has the largest battery pack of the lot and the greatest claimed range with up to 580km from a single charge.
