To celebrate AMG's 55th anniversary, Mercedes-AMG is expected to roll out a number of special editions though few are expected to catch anyone's attention like this. Based on the AMG GT Black Series, the limited run AMG GT Track Series is Mercedes' most powerful customer sports car ever produced, with a whopping 724 bhp! The AMG GT Track Series is essentially a GT-spec race car that's not approved for road use. Production is limited to just 55 units.
Starting at the heart of the matter, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has been updated to now put out 724 bhp and 850 Nm of peak torque. That's 4 bhp and 50 Nm more than the AMG Black Series. Furthermore the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox makes way for a 6-speed sequential race gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. The Track Series also features revised suspension with new Bilstein dampers capable of being adjusted for rebound, compression and ride height along with adjustable roll bars at either end. Stopping power comes courtesy of massive 390 mm steel discs up front and 355 mm discs at the rear.
Track Series gets upgraded aero and more weight saving measures.
Mercedes claims that the Track Series is even lighter than the Black Series with a kerb weight of 1,400 kg. This has been achieved from the use of carbonfibre for components such as the bonnet, fenders, sills, rear hatch and the rear apron along with extensive use of the material inside the cabin.

In terms of styling, the Track Series follows the looks of Mercedes' GT3 race car with similar bumpers and aggressive aero elements. The bonnet too features a prominent central vent as against the one on the Black Series. The rear wing while similar in look to the GT Black Series now provides additional downforce. The Track Series sits on exclusive 18-inch milled and forged wheels.
Cabin is all carbonfibre with minimal luxuries to save weight.
The cabin has been stripped of a lot of the usual luxuries of a road-going Mercedes-AMG. It is almost entirely finished in carbonfibre with even bits such as power windows dropped from the parts bin. A racing bucket seat, a customisable digital driver display, a F1-like steering wheel and exposed FIA-spec roll cage also tell you that you are seated in a track car. The centre console houses switches for the lights, fuel pump, engine ignition and rotary controls for the race-spec ABS and traction control – both adjustable to 12 levels with 12 seeing both systems completely switched off. The Track Series also comes equipped with a motorsports fire extinguisher and an extrication hatch in the roof.
Customers can also get optional equipment such as a seat and helmet ventilation system and a drinking system for the GT Track Series.
The Track Series also features a 120 litre motorsports safety fuel tank.
Mercedes-AMG will also offer customers technical training prior to delivery of the car along with engineering support on track days if requested.
