Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar made a stunning debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year, and was also on display at the New York International Auto Show. According to media reports, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that the Project One Hypercar is happening and will most likely be produced In Britain at the company's Formula 1 base. The Brixworth base in Britain will build the engine for the Project One Hypercar as it 'makes sense', considering it's an exceptionally complicated engine to produce in the first place. The limited edition AMG Project One has received close to 1000 requests, but the company will only produce 275 units.

The high-performance plug-in hybrid drive system of the Mercedes-AMG Project One comes directly from Formula 1, and was produced in cooperation with the motorsport experts of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains. It consists of a highly integrated and intelligently networked unit comprising one hybrid, turbocharged combustion engine with a total of four electric motors. The 1.6-litre V6 hybrid petrol engine with direct injection and electrically assisted single turbocharging comes directly from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 racing car. The four overhead camshafts are driven by spur gears. The vehicle is mid-engined (ahead of the rear axle) and it can easily reach speeds of 11,000 rpm, but remains significantly below the F1 engine speed limit.

This engine is said to produce more than 1000 bhp and can leaf-forward from standstill to 100kmph in less than 6 seconds, with a top speed of 350kmph. If the numbers stay true once the production version comes to life, then the Project One has the ability to beat Nurburgring's record of 6min 11.1 seconds. This record was set by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 sports car in 1983. Can the Project One beat the previous best? Only time will tell.
