Mercedes has officially unveiled the 2016 GLE. The car will make its debut at the New York Motor Show. Essentially a facelift of the M-Class, the GLE shares the familiar design but the company's new nomenclature.
The GLE features a new front fascia with a revised grille that is flanked by restyled headlights. The rear end has also been updated as it has new LED taillights and a sportier exhaust system. Mercedes-Benz has also unveiled the AMG variants and they are a tad more aggressive with a sportier front bumper, a single bar grille and a 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with a titanium grey finish. The high-performance crossovers also have a rear diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.
When it comes to the interior of the GLE, we see features that are carried over from the M-Class but there are a few things new in the car like a new multi-function steering wheel and a freestanding infotainment system.
There's also a revised colour palette for the upholstery that includes ginger beige, espresso brown, saddle brown and porcelain and an extensive assortment of trim. Customers will also be spoilt for choice as they can order aluminum, carbon fibre, piano black, brown ash, brown eucalyptus and brown burred walnut - just to name a few.
Under the hood, there are an assortment of engines like a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 with 328bhp and 480 Nm of torque, a twin-turbo 4.7-litre V8 with 430bhp and 700 Nm of torque. There is also the 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel with 201bhp and 480 Nm of torque and finally the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel with 254bhp and 620 Nm of torque.
If you're not happy with the power on offer, there is something more powerful on offer and this one is the AMG version which comes with the 5.5-litre V8 engine which churns out 550 and develops 700 Nm of torque. It enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Mercedes-Benz has also gone a step further and introduced the GLE 63 AMG S goes one step further as it produces 577 bhp. Thanks to the extra oomph, the model runs from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz will surely bring the car to India and we can expect it to come here this year itself. We are sure that the German car manufacturer will surprise everyone by bringing the car to India. sooner than expected.
