The ongoing global shortage of semiconductor chips has created supply constraints for automakers in India, leading to long waiting periods. And MG Motor India too has been facing this problem. Due to a delay in the supply of electronic components, the company failed to achieve its goal of delivering 5,000 units of the Astor compact SUV by the end of 2021. However, the company has released a statement announcing that it has steadily increased production and supplies. In its statement, the company has also assured that customers of the initial 5,000 MG Astor SUVs will get deliveries at the earliest and they will get it at the introductory price.
Addressing the customers Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer - MG Motor India, said "While we had delayed supplies in the initial months, we have steadily increased our production and supplies. As shared earlier, we continue to honour our first 5,000 customers in Batch one with priority deliveries at the inaugural launch price."

The MG Astor was launched in October 2021, and the first batch of 5,000 vehicles was sold out on the first day of the booking itself. Seeing the market situation, a month into the launch, the company did forecast that batch one deliveries might get delayed, however, the company did assure that they will be protected from the price hike if there is a spillover to 2022. In its statement, the company has said that a majority of the Batch one customers have already taken deliveries and now it will start catering to those on the waiting list. However, these customers will have to pay the revised prices.

Gupta further added, "With a majority of the Batch one customers having taken deliveries, we will now serve our priority waitlist customers at the prevailing prices. We apologise for the delay and change in the delivery schedule due to the unprecedented global shortage of semiconductors and chips. We are trying our best to meet your expectations and request your support and understanding."
The MG Astor is offered in two engine options - 1.5-litre VTi-Tech petrol and a 1.4-litre 220 Turbo petrol
At the time of its launch, the MG Astor was introduced at Rs. 9.78 lakh to Rs. 17.38 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Currently, the SUV is priced in India starting at Rs. 9.98 lakh, going up to Rs. 17.73 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The SUV is offered in five variants - Style, Super, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy. There are two engine options on offer - 1.5-litre VTi-Tech petrol and a 1.4-litre 220 Turbo petrol, and while the former is offered in both manual and CVT automatic choices, the turbo petrol engine comes with only an automatic torque converter unit as standard.
