Toyota certainly upped the ante with the Yaris compact sedan in India. The company has already received a massive order for the Yaris and it announced recently that more than 4000 units of the Yaris have been dispatched to showrooms across the country and the car is making its way to customers. The Yaris brings in a breath of fresh perspective to the compact sedan segment which has been dominated by the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and even the recently launched new generation Verna. It had to do something different, something drastic in fact, and managed to do that very thing.

The Toyota Yaris also comes with a whole bunch of accessories to enhance the exterior
A lot of people complained that the Yaris is only available in the petrol trim and customers would have loved the option of a diesel, but Toyota kept it simple and offered an automatic variant as also the top-of-the-line safety features right from the base variant. At the launch of the Yaris itself, the company said that the automatic accounts for 66 per cent or two thirds of all Yaris booked in India so far and considering the current trend in the country, that's not surprising at all. The Toyota Yaris is offered in 4 variants - J, G, V, VX and borrows styling cues from its older sibling - the Corolla Altis.

The Toyota Yaris comes with gesture control as well in the top-end model
It gets large sweptback headlamps with projector units, LED DRLs and LED guide lights along with large front grille with glossy black slats, coupled by round fog lamps. The muscular line adds to the aggressive design of the Yaris, which is further complimented by those 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The door handles gets chrome while the ORVMs get integrated turn signal lights. At the back, the rear portion comes with a pair of large LED tail lamps and rear foglamps. Projector headlamps come standard with the Yaris and so does keyless-entry.

The Toyota Yaris is only available with the petrol engine

Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota, said, " TheYaris has received overwhelming response from customers nationwide which gives us the confidence that customers have well accepted the value propositions of the product. In line with our customer first approach, we had started our production last month itself to be able to match our supply to the customer demand and reduce the waiting period as much as possible."

It's a big thumbs up on the safety front too as it comes with 7 airbags including curtain and knee airbags, front parking sensors, rear parking sensor with a camera, ABS with EBD, stability control and disc brakes for all four wheels. To put things into perspective, the Toyota Yaris received a 5-star safety rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash test.
