Honda has finally pulled the wraps off the new-gen HR-V crossover SUV for the North American markets. Set to be retailed as a 2023 model, the new-gen HR-V will be launched in the US later in the second half of 2022. The model is based on the same platform as the 11th generation Honda Civic, and it is larger than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase and wider stance, however, in terms of styling, Honda has given it a sporty look. As of now, Honda has only revealed the exterior of the crossover SUV.

Now, the HR-V sold in North America will be different from the one that will be sold in markets like Japan, China and Europe. Earlier, in 2021 Honda revealed the second-generation Vezel/third-generation HR-V for markets outside of North America. While the European-spec version did come with a hybrid version, in China, the company also introduces a battery-electric model.

The new Honda HR-V looks sporty with pronounced character lines slim LED headlamps and taillights and sporty alloys
Visually, the North American version of the new Honda HR-V looks sporty with pronounced character lines slim LED headlamps with new LED daytime running lights, a smart-looking grille and a wide bumper with a large airdam. A low horizontal beltline that begins with its extended hood and continues over the swell of the rear fenders gives its flowing forms a sense of motion. At the rear, it gets slim wraparound LED taillights with a smoked effect and a neatly designed bumper, along with a sculpted tailgate and a new spoiler.
Michael Kistemaker, assistant vice president of Automobile Sales of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. said, "By gaining aspirational qualities beyond its segment, the all-new 2023 Honda HR-V will welcome a new generation of customers to Honda and grow in importance as a gateway to the Honda brand. This new HR-V will advance its position as the segment leader with young buyers, first-time buyers, and multicultural customers."
The crossover is expected to carry forward the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that currently powers the American-spec Civic sedan
Now, while Honda hasn't revealed the technical specifications of the North American-spec HR-V, however, the company says that it "will feature a more responsive engine and a new independent rear suspension, giving the compact SUV a more confident, refined and fun-to-drive personality". Having said that, the crossover is expected to carry forward the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that currently powers the American-spec Civic sedan.
