Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been one of the top-selling cars from the Indo-Japanese car manufacturer. Maruti has been selling the car in India since 1999 and a few years back it even launched the Stingray version of the car. The WagonR has been present in its home market, Japan since 1993 and the car is now up for its next generation upgrade this year. Ahead of its official debut, brochure images of the new-gen Suzuki WagonR and Stingray have now surfaced online revealing the cars' new design language and a host of other details.
Compared to the current models, the 2017 Suzuki WagonR and Stingray come with some major design and cosmetic changes. The design has become more quirky and the car looks a lot boxier now. In fact, the car looks like a compressed version of Maruti Suzuki Ecco giving it a Minivan-like stance and get bolder styling and detailed character lines.
New Suzuki WagonR
The new front end features a two-part grille and horizontal headlamps. The upper section of the grille comes with a fat chrome slat flanked by the new headlamps giving the impression of one single element. The lower section comes with a honeycomb pattern grille and horizontal fog lamps on either side. The large front bumper is also new and now houses a trapezoidal airdam with large vertical air intakes on both sides.
New Suzuki Stingray
The Stingray, on the other hand, comes with a slightly different front with a Chevy-style split grille and the Suzuki logo at the centre. Unlike the standard WagonR, the Stingray gets angular headlamps that have been placed in a vertical manner. The front bumper is also different and the shape of the airdam has been inverted. There are new round foglamps that have been positioned on either side of the airdam with a chrome bezel.
From the side profile both the WagonR and the Stingray remain largely identical to each other and get new ORVMs with integrated turn signal lights, flared wheel arches, new different alloy wheels for each car, and a new B-Pillar, which to be frank doesn't do very well with the design of the car. The pillar is thicker, especially at the base, and this is achieved by cutting into the rear side glass at the bottom. The rear has also changed with a new roof-mounted, low-placed horizontal taillamps and a large rear windshield.

Dimensionally the car will remain largely similar to the current model but the wheelbase is said to have been slightly increased, which more space inside the cabin. There are no images of the interior yet, although we expect to cabin to be updated as well. The Japan-spec Suzuki WagonR will be equipped with features like automatic climate control, touch-screen infotainment system, rear parking sensors, dual air bags, ABS with EBD and the likes. India-spec will get most of them.
There is no word on when the cars will arrive in India, but whenever that happens expect a slight alteration in styling and the feature list. While we expect the current powertrain option to remain unchanged, the company might throw in the new 1.0-litre engine as well, at least for the Japan-spec model.
