Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus has officially revealed the second-generation NX SUV. The all-new SUV gets a sleek design, more features, modern styling as well as updated mechanicals. The carmaker says it has taken design inspiration from the LF-Z EV concept that was revealed earlier this year. The new NX SUV is based on the GA-K version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. Under the 'Lexus Electrified' electrification vision, the new NX will be available as both Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). The SUV will go into production in the third quarter of 2021.

The second-generation Lexus NX SUV is sleeker, feature-loaded and gets upgraded powertrain options.
The aesthetic appeal of the second-generation Lexus NX is highlighted by an aggressive front design featuring a new blacked-out spindle grille with sleek headlamps along with L-shaped daytime running lights. It also gets C-shaped air intakes with fog lamps which emphasises the overall look of the SUV. The carmaker says that the hood has been extended to the edge of the front end while the grille surface has been raised vertically to strengthen the front end's mass. In profile, the SUV looks very much proportionate with the overall silhouette remaining similar to the outgoing model. At the rear, an elongated light bar, which is located across the center of the vehicle combines with the independently positioned L-shaped lamps on the left and right to enhance the unique originality of the NX. Moreover, the company branding placed above the license plate symbolizes the next generation of Lexus.
The cabin design of the all-new Lexus NX SUV is based on the Tazuna Concept
Inside, the cabin of the all-new NX has been completely revamped. It is based on the Tazuna Concept that was first introduced in the LF-30 Electrified concept car in 2019. It comes equipped with a 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display (optional 14-inch) with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 14-inch navigation system, wireless charging, a Lexus premium sound system with 10 speakers, and more. The all-new NX possesses the latest Lexus advanced safety technologies such as e-latch system, safe exit assist, panoramic view monitor, advanced driver assistance technology with an advance park with remote function, pre-crash safety, front cross-traffic alert, radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane change assist, proactive driving assist, ABS with EBD, traction control, front and rear parking sensors and much more.
Lexus says the all-new NX will be offered a wide range of powertrains, including models powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, and a 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine, among others. Moreover, all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on models equipped with PHEV and 2.4-liter turbo powertrains, whilst both AWD and front-wheel drive (FWD) are available on the models equipped with HEV and 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated powertrains.
The new NX will be available as both Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).
Takeaki Kato, Chief Engineer, Lexus International said, "The development of the new NX was a series of new challenges for Lexus. We implemented "digital development" to ensure quality by evaluating the well thought-out design structure under various conditions using computer models to check productivity. In terms of driving, professional racing drivers conducted an evaluation test drive at the Shimoyama test course to thoroughly train the car's body structure and control the driving force to inherit and evolve the Lexus driving flavor."
Dimensionally, the new Lexus NX measures 4660 mm in length, 1865 mm in width, 1640 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2690 mm, which has been increased 30 mm.
