Land Rover revealed the new fifth-gen Range Rover last year, and now some 6 months later, it's the turn of the new third-gen Range Rover Sport. The new Sport is set to make its debut on May 10 with Land Rover releasing the first set of teasers for the upcoming luxury SUV. The teasers provide a brief glimpse of the upcoming SUV's exterior design along with a look at the central console. A separate teaser video shared on social media showed that Land Rover is planning to take the new Range Rover Sport through some off-road obstacles similar to what the company did with the current-gen model.
Starting with the exterior, the teasers give a glimpse at the sleek headlamps and a portion of the SUV's front fender and A-pillar. On the whole, don't expect a dramatic change in design from the current model with Land Rover likely to follow the same evolutionary design we saw with the new gen-5 Range Rover.
The image of the interior previewed a dashboard design that is shared with its larger sibling though the centre console has been redesigned with the centre console curving out from the dashboard from below the touchscreen for a more flowing look. This is accompanied by what looks to be a revised position for the gear lever though. Land Rover has said that the new Sport will offer a “dynamic, cockpit-like driving position” with the cabin finished in the “finest materials.”
The company has also said that the new Range Rover Sport will continue “the daring exploits of its predecessors by undertaking a unique challenge for its launch.” As a brief recap, the outgoing models had completed a number of challenges including crossing the “Empty Quarter” in the Arabian Peninsula, setting a Pikes Peak hill-climb record and ascending the 999 steps to the Heaven's Gate in China in 2018.

As with the larger Range Rover, the new Sport will sit on Land Rover's new MLA Flex architecture. Engine options too are expected to be shared which means that the new Sport will feature a range of six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Also expected is a plug-in hybrid and a range-topping SVR model which could use BMW M's 4.4-litre V8 under the JLR-BMW powertrain sharing agreement.
Land Rover says that it will be opening order books for the new Sport globally from May 10, though for India we could expect bookings to commence in the months to follow.
