Ola Electric Co-Founder and CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, has made an ambitious claim that the company will introduce its first autonomous car in about two years. The development was recently announced, while Aggarwal was speaking with the media at Ola FutureFactory, in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu. The head of Ola Cabs and Ola Electric said that the company has been testing an autonomous vehicle for nearly six months now and the car will be launched in the global markets by late 2023 or early 2024.
Aggarwal told reporters that Ola is looking forward to launching a car with indigenously developed autonomous technology that will be a mass-market vehicle.
"Ola Electric began testing an autonomous vehicle nearly six months ago and will launch it in global markets by late 2023 or early 2024," he added.
Bhavish has claimed that the aim is to offer the car for around Rs. 10 lakh so that more people can afford it.

This ambitious announcement comes at a time with Ola Electric, along with several other electric two-wheeler manufacturers, is facing heat from consumers and authorities for incidents involving electric vehicles catching fire. Earlier, on March 26, a video of an Ola scooter engulfed in fire went viral on the internet. In addition to that, the company is also facing delivery shortfalls due to the shortage of semiconductors. In fact, the company has recently recalled over 1400 units of the Ola S1 Pro scooters to check for fire hazards. And the company shifting its focus toward autonomous cars, before solving the problems with electric scooters at hand, will certainly raise some eyebrows.

Ola recently also showcased a self-driving cart that uses LiDAR, at the company's manufacturing facility at Pochampalli. The company says that the autonomous cart will be exported to other countries from India, and it will be used in hospitals, malls, offices and public places. Additionally, Aggarwal added that Ola Electric is also planning to launch a lower-priced Ola S1 scooter later this year.
