The BMW X2 Concept was in the works for quite some time now. It is the latest attempt from the Bavarian company to add to its 'X' range of SUVs. The X2 will be a compact SUV, which BMW says, will carry a different design language from other 'X' SUVs. BMW says the X2 is the perfect compact SUV which will have a solid sporting appeal in the urban environment.
"The BMW Concept X2 is a vehicle for active people looking for a combination of enjoyment and practicality," explains Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president, BMW Group Design. "The concept displays a new and exciting facet of the BMW brand within the compact segment."
(2017 BMW X2 Concept at the Paris Motor Show)A long wheelbase, short overhangs, two-box design and forward slanting C-pillars give the X2 Concept a sporty Coupe-esque look. The X2 Concept makes use of BMW's UKL platform, which also forms the underpinnings for the forthcoming Mini Countryman. The sharp-looking front end with BMW's signature kidney grille and those sharp, raked headlamps make for solid presence. The cladding all along the lower body and the sloped roof-line adds to the good looks and feels refreshingly different from its other cousins. BMW sees the X2 as a sportier alternative to the BMW X1.
(2017 BMW X2 Concept at the Paris Motor Show)Once, it does go into production, the X2 will be going up against the Range Rover Evoque and Audi's upcoming Q4 SUV. There will be a range of powertrains to choose from as well. At launch, BMW will be offering one 2.0-litre petrol engine which will be turbocharged and produce 189bhp. There will be three diesel engine options, all of which will have BMW's 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel oil burner but in different states of tune. Sometime later, BMW might also bring out an M Performance version of the 2.0-litre petrol whose output will be in the region of 300bhp or so. As far as transmission options are concerned, there will be choice between 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic units along 2WD or 4WD option as well.
The BMW X2 Concept will be built at the company's Regensburg factory in Germany.
