The Volkswagen Polo is one of the more popular hatchbacks in India. The car was first launched in 2010 and has spent 12 years in the Indian market. However, VW never really gave it a proper update and was discontinued due to falling sales. Having said that, if you want a well-built fun-to-drive hatchback on a budget, then the Polo still makes for a good option, and you can get one from the used car market for anywhere between Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh. However, before you start looking for one, here are some pros and cons you need to consider.
If you want a performance car on a budget the Polo GT TSI is the one to look for.
Pros:
The Volkswagen Polo is a well-built German car that offers great driving dynamics, handling and ride quality.
While the newer Polo came with a 1.0-litre TSI engine, the older model was offered with 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine. All were quite capable engines, but if we had to pick it would be either the 1.0 TSI or the older diesel.
The Polo was also the car that made hot hatches famous in India, and if you want a performance car on a budget the Polo GT TSI is the one to look for. The older version came with a 7-speed DSG unit, which makes the car a total hoot to drive.
The Volkswagen Polo is one of the safer cars in its segment, and it comes with features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. ESC and hill-hold assist are also offered but only with AT trims. The car had a 4-star rating from Global NCAP.
The Polo is not so great when it comes to rear seat space and the cabin layout and features too are quite dated.

While it's only been a few months since VW stopped the same of the Polo in India, globally it's been a few years since the car has been discontinued. So, while right now it might not be an issue in the long run part availability will be a matter of concern.
