Porsche has released a massive software update for the Taycan which is its first electric car. This update is aimed for the models that have been released between 2020 and 2022 with the aim of bringing them closer to the newer 2023 model. This update enhances the efficiency of the car by quite a margin and enables the car to run for longer distances on a single charge with it also adding functionality enhancements.
Overall, there is a gain of 50 km in terms of range as per the European WLTP standard. There are improvements to the Porsche Communications Management system, Porsche connect, its connected car suite and assistance systems.
The car’s power train is also enhanced by this software update. Now, the front motors of the all-wheel-drive model as it can ow completely disconnect and de-energise the motors on the front in the Normal and range driving modes. While coasting both the axels are free of drive torque. The electric freewheel reduces the drag and increases the range further of the vehicle.
There is an optimised energy recuperation straggly and AWD indicator that ins now shown as an energy flow sign in the user interface of the car.
This also helps thermal management which mages the battery better especially when in low temperatures. It allows the car to be rapidly charged more often and over a wider range of battery charge levels when charged for longer hours or shorter bursts.
The Porsche Communications Management system gets a new tile like interface and optimised voice controls, Spotify integration and wireless Android Auto as all these features were weird omissions from the original car.
The assistance systems like the ParkAssist also have a better range and also suggest smaller parking spaces to the driver. More than this, the update also opens up avenues for micro transactions as users can pay to unlock certain features in the car that have been locked by software.
