German luxury sports car maker, Porsche has released its global sales numbers for the first half (H1) of the 2021 calendar year. Between January and June 2021, the Stuttgart-based carmaker sold 153,656 vehicles worldwide, registering an increase of 31 per cent compared to the same period in 2020. In fact, the company claims that sales from the Middle East and Africa region in H1 2021, stood 3,804, representing a 46 per cent increase over the previous year and the organisation's best half-year sales since 2016. Porsche credits this growth the significant increase in demand growth it has witnessed globally.
The collective sales from Asia-Pacific, Africa and Middle East regions, which includes India, stood at 69,198 units, out of which 48,654 vehicles sold in China, between January and June 2020. In Europe, Porsche's sales reached 40,435, while in Germany alone it sold 13,094 units, witnessed a 22 per cent growth. Sales in America stood at 44,023 units, out of which 36,326 vehicles were sold in the US alone.

While the company has witnessed growth over the last year, we have to consider the fact the for the most part of H1 2020, almost the entire world was plagued with the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, affecting both car sales worldwide. So, we have to take this growth with a pinch of salt. Having said that, Porsche says that buyer confidence returned to the region with all models showing increased demand with the highest interest recorded for Porsche's compact SUV and the iconic 911 range. In fact, the 911 enjoyed its best-ever half-year result since 2017 with a 35 per cent increase over the previous year.

Porsche sold 19,822 units of the all-electric Taycan, which now represents almost 10 per cent of the model range sold worldwide
The Porsche Cayenne was the best-selling model from the company, with 44,050 units being delivered between January and June 2021. The Macan took the second spec with 43,618 units, resulting in the best-ever performance since its introduction in 2014. Porsche also sold 20,611 units of the 911, and 19,822 units of the all-electric Taycan. The 718 twins - Boxster and Cayman - recorded 11,922 deliveries, while the Panamera sales stood at 13,633. Porsche says that right now the one all-electric Taycan represents almost 10 per cent of the model range sold worldwide. However, by 2030, the company aims of delivering 80 per cent of our new vehicles with an electric motor.

Talking about the company's EV portfolio, Manfred Braeunl, CEO, Porsche Middle East and Africa said, "The ongoing expansion of our battery-powered products continues with the latest addition, the Taycan Cross Turismo. The world's first fully-electric utility vehicle needed an equally innovative and daring introduction; our cutting-edge video production Drive2Extremes was watched by millions of Porsche lovers across the globe." As for the near future, Porsche has reported full order books, however, the carmaker is also aware of the uncertainties caused by the pandemic and the semiconductor supply situation. Despite that, the company maintains an optimistic stance.
