Honda’s premium brand Acura debuted its Precision Concept car in 2016 which provided a visual roadmap for its future models. Now, Acura has revealed the Precision EV Concept which has been born out of the original. It gives a preview of the first electric Acura. Now, the first electric Acura is slated to launch in 2024 and will use GM’s Ultium battery platform.
The idea for this concept is to showcase the flexibility of the platform with the front of the car having a light show that plays across an illuminated pentagon-shaped grille. This new concept is also an SUV instead of a sedan which was the way the original Precision concept was.
Acura’s designers were also inspired by the chiselled contours of luxury powerboats with a v-shaped hull tumblehome. It looks best from the front three-quarters angle the car has an arc from the rear of the body to the A-pillar which transitions to a crease along the hood.
The car gets 23-inch wheels which have unique shapes on the spokes. Acura calls the theme “Particle Glitch”. Inside the cockpit, there is a cutting cabin which has a massive curved transparent touch screen that sits on top of the dashboard. Instead of a steering wheel, there is a yoke which contains a cluster of knobs and dials.
Acura focuses on an instinctive drive mode which envelops the space in red lighting and provides racy engine sounds. There is also a spiritual lounge mode where the yoke and pedals retract and both displays go transparent and the seat recline.
Its principal designer Gypsy Modina says that he wanted to create an environment capable of immersing all five senses. The car will use 100 per cent biomass leather on the seats, there will be recycled aluminium and plastic that is used liberally throughout the cockpit.
