Ford created the second-gen Ford GT with just one goal in mind, to win the 24 hours of Le Mans like its predecessor, and it achieved just that in its very first attempt in 2016, exactly 50 years after the Original Ford GT40 won the coveted race in 1966! Now, after 6 years, Ford has decided to end the production of its Legendary Supercar by the end of 2022 with a final run of 250 cars, marking the end of an era.
The Canada-based company that builds the Ford GT, Multimatic, expects to assemble the last Ford GT before the end of this year, in its low-volume assembly facility in Markham, Ontario.
Last week, Ford revealed the Red GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition, to celebrate Alan Mann Racing, which helped develop the lightweight chassis for the Original GT in the 1960s. Though the original car could never win an actual race, it was instrumental in the development of the Mk-II GT 40 that eventually won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966, beating Ferrari at their own game. Though this was the second heritage edition that Ford revealed in 2022 and the 7th since the launch of Ford GT, with the production ending, it could very well be the last.
With the knowledge about the 3rd generation of Ford GT being scarce, it could be anyone's guess on how the next car could be, or when it would arrive. As for this one, it will be sorely missed by us and thousands of automotive enthusiasts.
