We'd seen nanoFLOWCELL AG introduce their QUANT e-Sportlimousine concept at the Geneva Motor Show this year and looking at it, one would have thought that it would never go beyond being a concept. Surprisingly, the company has announced that the car has been approved for road use in Europe.
Nunzio La Vecchia, Chief Technical Officer, nanoFLOWCELL AG, said, "This is a historic moment and a milestone not only for our company but perhaps even for the electro-mobility of the future. For the first time an automobile featuring flow-cell electric drive technology will appear on Germany's roads."
It is a bit difficult to explain how exactly this powertrain works, but according to the company, "Flow cells combine aspects of electrochemical accumulator cells with those of fuel cells. Liquid electrolytes are kept in two tanks and circulated through the cell. At the heart of the system, a membrane separates the two electrolytic solutions, but allows electrical charge to pass through and thereby produce power for the drivetrain."
While that sounds Latin to most of us, we'll get to the figures that are easy to fathom. The car will come with 4 electric motors that produce a combined output of 650bhp and this will help the car accelerate from 0-100Km/h in 2.8 seconds before topping out at 380Km/h. The range, ofcourse, is yet to be revealed, but will cross the 600 Km mark.
