Renault is readying to replace the short-lived Kadjar compact crossover SUV in Europe, with the new Renault Austral, as it teased the silhouette of the new model earlier this month. Now, the French carmaker gave a glimpse inside the Renault Austral in a new design sketch, revealing crucial details of the upcoming Skoda Karoq and Peugeot 3008 rival. Renault says the upcoming Renault Austral will not only be big on space, so that passengers get enough room for a comfortable drive, but will also be brimming with technology, as few elements are streamlined to provide a holistic package.

According to the designers at Renault's Bucharest studio, the interior of the new Renault Austral is designed to focus on comfort, while following traditional Renault SUV design with a tall and wide centre console. Renault says the new, large OpenR screen is the largest in the market and was first seen on the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric. The L-shaped configuration stretches across the central dashboard, spanning 24.3-inch, is easy to reach while being intuitive. Additionally, this screen controls all the features of the car including Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Google Maps, and even Google Search. Besides, the architecture of the dashboard is also designed in a way to make it look slim, and wide, offering an airy feel to the passengers inside.

The passenger compartment is also modular, with numerous storage spaces, starting with a thick sliding armrest that provides storage and makes using the OpenR Link multimedia system easier. The console has two large storage areas and a case to hold smartphones and induction-charge it at the same time if you want. Combined, the choice of alcoves around the passenger compartment can fit more than 30-litre.

The overall layout follows angled lines that give the Renault Austral its vibrant sway. A dotted fabric decks the entire roof and windscreen, while the front seats taper at the top, making it easier for passengers to interact. The design sketch also reveals the absence of the transmission tunnel, making more room for the rear passengers, while sliding and folding rear bench can be operated via a button in the boot.
