Renault Captur To Be Launched In November; Dispatches Commence
Key Highlights
  • The Renault Captur will be a premium offering from the company
  • The Captur shares both its platform and powertrains with the Duster
  • The range-topping trim is called Renault Captur 'Platine'

Renault Captur, the upcoming compact SUV from the French carmaker, is finally set to go on sale in India on November 6. The car will be launched sometime in the first half of next month, while a date hasn’t yet been set for it, Renault has officially opened bookings for the SUV. The company has already started dispatching the Captur SUV to the 300+ Renault showrooms in the country. We have already driven the new Renault Captur and shared our first impressions with you and also everything there is to know about the crossover-like SUV. The new model will be positioned above the Renault Duster and it will compete with the likes of the Jeep Compass, the Hyundai Creta and even the Mahindra XUV500.

The India-spec Renault Captur is based on the Duster's platform and, in fact, both are pretty identical in terms of dimensions as well. It measures 4329 mm in length, 1813 mm in width and 1619 mm in height and this makes it slightly longer than the Duster while being a bit narrower and shorter. The wheelbase, however, is same as the Duster at 2673 mm. The Captur even gets the same engine options as the Duster - 1.5-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. The petrol version in the Duster makes about 105 bhp and 142 Nm of peak torque while the diesel unit makes 108 bhp and 240 Nm of peak torque. The petrol motor will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the diesel model gets a 6-speed manual. Automatic option will come later.

Having said that, the Renault Captur is a lot more premium and you can sense that from the styling, the features and the built quality of the cabin. For India alone, Renault offers a top-of-the-line Platine variant of the Captur SUV, which is not offered in any other market. The Captur comes with several premium features like smart looking projector headlamps, a stylish chrome grille, bold front bumper with silver skid plate, and C-shaped LED daytime running lamps along with 17-inch alloy and 'ripple effect' LED taillights.

The cabin is also well-designed with a premium interior in white and black dual tone colour. The Platine trim gets while leather upholstery, three-spoke steering wheel and a centre console that houses a touchscreen infotainment system with audio and navigation. The interface is also similar to the one in the Duster, Lodgy, and even the Kwid, but there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, which is a bummer. Renault will also offer a host of customisation option for the Captur SUV at the time of the launch. Upon launch, we expect the price of the new Renault Captur to be in the range of Rs. 12-15 lakhs.
