Renault Captur With Automatic Transmission Coming Soon

Renault India said that there will be a CVT made available soon. We expect the CVT to be the same unit as the one on the Duster petrol which was launched earlier this year. On the Duster, the CVT returns 14.99 kmpl and we expect similar numbers from this unit when it makes it way to the Captur.

Renault Captur With Automatic Transmission Coming Soon
Key Highlights
  • The Renault Captur compact SUV shares its underpinnings with the Duster
  • Renault Captur petrol gets a 5-speed manual and the diesel gets a 6-speed
  • The Captur will possibly get a CVT option in future

Renault India, today finally launched its second compact SUV in India- the Captur - and this one is a more premium offering from the carmaker when compared to the Duster. The base variant of the Captur comes with 50 premium features like projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and an integrated audio system among others. The Captur follows Renault’s global design language and is based on the same M0 platform as the Duster. It will be available in 3 variants RXE, RXL and RXT and will be available in both petrol and diesel engines. Renault also introduced another top-spec ‘Platine’ variant which makes it global debut in India. The Platine variant comes with all the bells and whistles but is only available with a diesel powertrain. Dispatches for the Captur began last month while bookings commenced in late September .

Prices for the Captur start at Rs. 9.99 lakh going all the way up to 13.88 lakh for the Platine variant. With respect to dimensions, the Renault Captur sits longer than the Duster, but is narrower and shorter than its sibling. The ground clearance though is an impressive 210 mm, much better than the competition. There are other very likeable bits too like the full LED headlamps with the dynamic LED turn indicators. You also get massive C-shaped LED DRLs integrated into the bumper, while the all-LED wraparound taillights get some neat detailing. The SUV rides on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the top trims.

Inside, the Renault Captur looks premium and the materials feel upmarket as well, when compared to the Duster. The cabin is finished in a dual-tone black and white shade with the centre console hosting a large touchscreen infotainment system surrounded by gloss black inserts. The twin-pod instrument console includes a digital display that looks very sharp and futuristic.

Under the hood, the Renault Captur uses the 1.5-litre K9k diesel engine that produces 108 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 240 Nm at 1750 rpm. The 1.5-litre petrol comes loaded with 104 bhp at 5600 rpm and 142 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The petrol engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission while the diesel gets a 6-speed. There’s no automatic variant on offer yet, but Sumit Sawhney, CEO and Managing Director, Renault India said that there will be a CVT made available soon. We expect the CVT to be the same unit as the one on the Duster petrol which was launched earlier this year. On the Duster, the CVT returns 14.99 kmpl and we expect similar numbers from this unit when it makes it way to the Captur. Renault India has not given any timeline for the launch of the automatic variant but we expect it to be launched in the second quarter of 2018.
