Renault Triber Vs Datsun Go+ Vs Maruti Suzuki Swift Vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios: Specification Compari
Key Highlights
  • The Renault Triber is a subcompact, 7-seater MPV pitted against hatches.
  • The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is the newest rival in the segment.
  • The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the bestselling model so far in the segment.

There isn't a particular segment to categorize the Renault Triber. The Sub-four meter seven-seater MPV segment isn't really popular and the Datsun Go+ is only such car we have in our market. However, the Renault Triber is not targeted towards just its sibling from Datsun and is here to shake things up being a premium offering from the French carmaker. The idea here is to come up with a versatile product at the price of a B Segment hatchback and the Triber makes a strong case featuring a spacious cabin, 5+2 seating configuration and detachable third-row seats. It technically goes up against the Datsun Go+, but Renault is also targeting some prominent hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the recently launched Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Here's how it fares up against the competition in terms of specifications.

ejktsu1oThe Renault Triber looks more like an urban jacked up hatchback and is based on a modified version Kwid's CMF-A platform.

The Renault Triber is underpinned by a revamped version of Kwid's CMF-A platform and the company says that it's been upgraded with 90 per cent new parts in a bid to optimize the cabin space and improve NVH levels. The Datsun Go+ is based on Nissan's V platform which has been there for a while now. The Maruti Suzuki Swift got a generation update a couple of years back and is spawned by the Heartect platform which also underpins a wide range of Suzuki cars and is significantly lighter than its predecessor. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is its newest competitor and is underpinned by an advanced version of the K1 platform.

vv2hsposThe Datsun Go+ got a mid-life update last year which gave it a revised face and new elements like LED DRLs and a new mesh grille.

The Datsun Go+ is the longest car in this comparison, however, it's just marginally longer than the Triber. That said, the Renault Triber has the longest wheelbase and that too by quite a margin. It is over 150 mm longer than the other three and also is the widest and tallest among all.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the most sporty looking car in its segment.

In terms of looks, The Datsun Go+ was never a head turner despite the facelift which got it some in-trend elements like LED DRLs along with a sculpted bumper. The previous-generations Hyundai Grand i10 too is getting a little long in the tooth but the Nios will give it a tough fight specially with elements like a well proportionate cascade grille and those boomerang shaped DRLs. In fact the Grand i10 Nios has turned out to be quite a looker with the right sculpting in the metal and some triangular elements, for instance the air curtains.

h254mfpgThe new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios looks urban and stylish and is the newest rival in this comparison.

The Renault Triber looks more like a jacked-up hatchback than a cross-MPV, but manages to get a desired stance and those 15-inch wheels help to some extent as well, especially in the front. Elements like bold claddings and skid plates go well along with the design and the face looks modern adorned with minimal sculpting and subtle use of chrome around the fog lamp housing and in the grille. The overall design looks very urban as well featuring wide window frames and design elements to mask its bulges, particularly below the C-Pillar and a fine sculpting at the rear. However, the Swift by far has the most aggressive design and outshines the other three with a chunky design language and a face that boasts boldness, thanks to the big black grille and protruding wheel arches. The design at the rear is a little low slung and gives a floating roof impression which adds to its sporty character. The rear looks nice as well with an adequately sized windscreen and short boot gate.

Boot Space 84-625 litres 347 litres (Third Row Folded) 268 litres 260 Litres
84po98kgThe Renault Triber has the most minimalist and neat design on the inside with fewer buttons .

The Renault Triber is over 250 mm more spacious on the inside than the Swift and Grand i10 Nios. It is likely to be more spacious even than the Go+ given that it has a larger wheelbase, though we don't have the number to back it up in the case of the Go + or Grand i10 Nios. The Triber also has a significantly larger boot once you take out the third-row seats, while it's limited to just 84 litres with all seats up.

ac4s1cvThe Datsun Go+ also got some updates on the inside with the facelift, like the new 7-inch touchscreen system.

On the inside, the Renault Triber has the most minimalist design with less buttons and switches, though the symmetrical dashboard looks a bit simple. The beige and grey colour combination gel well together and the third-row seats, though best for children, can seat adults for a short while, thanks to the floor depth. The Datsun Go+ did get an upgrade with the facelift, but has some flimsy elements on the inside. For instance, the air-con vents and plastic around the central console aren't as eye-soothing and the material quality too is not up to scratch.

7d5onn0gThe new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios gets a completely new cabin.

The fit and finish along with the material quality on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is the best-in-class and it appeals with the overall premium feel. The Maruti Suzuki Swift may not have the best put together cabin and still leave us demanding for plastic quality, but it has a sporty aura inside and primality the colour combination along with the design have to be credited for that. The overall black cabin with silver highlights together look very sporty and is further complemented with design elements like circular air-con vents, a flat dash-top, contoured fronts seats and a flat bottom steering wheel.

suzuki swift sport cabinSwift's cabin looks sporty finished in black but that takes away the sense of space on the inside.

Features

Features Renault Triber Datsun Go+ Maruti Suzuki Swift Hyundai Grand i10
Touchscreen Size 8-inch 7-inch 7-inch 8-inch

In terms of features, all the three cars a pretty well loaded for their segment. The top variants of all models get features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, Auto climate control, tilt-steering adjust, seat height adjust, MID display, four-door power windows, powered ORVMs and rear defogger among others. That said, the Renault Triber and Grand i10 Nios come with an 8-inch touchscreen while the Swift and Redi-go get 7-inch units. That said, the Swift and Grand i10 get an edge in this department being equipped with some more premium features like projector headlamps, auto-function for headlamps and rain sensing wipers which may not be necessary, but are novelty to have.
