Bringing an end to over four years of wait, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV- a first ever for the automaker, has made its global debut. The Cullinan is the world's most luxurious SUV and certainly surpasses expectations in terms of luxury, dynamism and power. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be taking on the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, Range Rover SV Autobiography as well as the upcoming Mercedes-Maybach GLS. And yes, the SUV will be coming to India as well at a later stage. The new SUV comes with a tonne of bespoke options, and can be ordered in both four or five-seater configurations.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan shares its underpinnings with the new generation Phantom, using the same aluminium architecture. The suspension system is also said to be carried over, along with the four-wheel drive system and the SUV also comes with a 4-wheel steering. The traditional design has been carried over on the Cullinnan, and the SUV is instantly recognisable as a Royce-Royce. The massive grille and sharp headlights dominate the front, while the overall boxy proportions make for a behemoth of a size. As Rolls-Royce puts it, this is the first "three-box" model in the SUV-sector.
Power on the Rolls-Royce Cullinan comes from the 6.75-litre V12 engine. The beast of a motor is tuned for 563 bhp and 850 Nm of peak torque, and while that is 50 Nm lower than the Phantom, torque kicks in much earlier at 1600 rpm. With all-wheel drive, the SUV is also capable off-road and can take on any kind of a terrain with multiple driving modes and a dedicated off-road mode. The Cullinan comes with a wading depth of 540 mm, which is super impressive.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is longer than the flagship Range Rover extended wheelbase and there's plenty of leather and top notch wood, and metal works to make for a pleasing cabin. The SUV also comes with advanced technologies right from touchscreen systems, heated seats and armrests, wireless charging and a whole lot more.
The Cullinan is positioned below the Phantom in the Rolls-Royce range and you can expect prices to begin at a modest Rs. 5 crore (ex-showroom), and go higher depending on the level of bespoke options you opt for.
