With sales of 47,037 motorcycles within the country in April, 2016, Royal Enfield saw a significant growth of 42 per cent over the same period last year. Also, the iconic manufacturer exported 1,160 units in April 2016 over 800 units last year. This resulted in a growth of 45 per cent. The total number of motorcycles sold was 48,197 as compared to 33,918 in April 2015. So overall, RE's sales grew a robust 42 per cent in the first month of the new fiscal. Recently, Royal Enfield also cemented its position as the fifth largest motorcycle manufacturer in India overtaking Yamaha. The total sales volume of Royal Enfield grew by a solid 50 per cent in the last five years. It plans to increase their yearly production to 9, 00,000 units by 2018.
With the launch of the Himalayan, Royal Enfield has caught the fancy of enthusiasts who were looking for an adventure touring motorcycle on a budget. Simply put, there is no motorcycle such as the Himalayan in the market at present. The Classic 350 has been the largest selling RE motorcycle for quite some time now. In FY 2015-16, RE sold 2,76,853 units of the Classic 350, which is a growth of more than 75 per cent than FY 2014-15 where it sold 1,57,531 units. Also, RE has been eyeing other motorcycling markets as well. It recently opened a showroom in Ireland. Earlier in the year, it had opened a showroom in Thailand as well. One can definitely concur that the Chennnai-based motorcycle manufacturer has its plans in place and is executing them flawlessly.
