Toyota has announced that from 2018 some of its production models will come with the second-generation 'Toyota Safety Sense' (TSS) features. The company says that the technology used in the new TSS will be borrowed from the carmakers more advanced Lexus safety system used in Toyota's luxury brand Lexus. Toyota says that this step will allow the company to offer advanced safety features like pedestrian detection system even in less expensive cars, thus offering more of Toyota customers, access to these safety features. The system will officially roll-out from mid-2018 in some select vehicles as a standard offering.
One of the most important features that we'll see in the second generation Toyota Safety Sense system is the advanced pre-collision system. The system detects and offers a better braking response in case a pedestrian comes in front of the vehicle, sensors that can respond to a potential accident with a bicycle, and also an adaptive cruise control to have better detection of traffic in front of the driver.

In addition to that, the system also includes a Lane Tracing Assist system that can automatically make small steering corrections for keeping the vehicle centred in the lane. Furthermore, the company has also upgraded the existing Lane Departure Alert that can now detect the edge of the road as well. The system also comes with a Road Sign Assist that features a front-mounted camera to monitor for signs and displays the info either on the dashboard or the heads up display.

Toyota hasn't revealed as to which of its new and existing models will get the second-gen TSS system but, one of the possible recipients that could be the next-gen Toyota Camry sedan is what we believe. More details are likely to be revealed at Toyota's press conference, at the ongoing LA Auto Show, which is scheduled for November 30.
