VW Group companies Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra have teased new small EVs for the European market. Essentially sister models to each other, the three new EVs are set to sit on the Group's MEB Entry platform with plans to bring the car to markets by 2025. VW had previously previewed its upcoming small car in 2021 with the ID. Life Concept though the teaser here previews a model that is considerably different.
Compared to the boxy ID Life Concept, the VW teasers previews a new model more in-line with the company's current ID3 and ID 4. The sketch previews a car with a more flowing design, swept-back headlamps and a sloping roof. Another design similarity with the rest of the ID range is the wheel being pushed to the edges of the car maximising the wheelbase.
Skoda's EV previews a notably different design to its sister models.
Skoda has gone for a more angular and upright approach with the design sketch suggesting its car could be a crossover. The upright nose and squared out wheel arches give it an SUV like look with the arches themselves seemly wearing cladding. Other notable design features visible include a prominent shoulder line and a gently sloping roof. Skoda's EV is expected to be one of the company's first models to feature its new ‘Modern Solid' design language when it goes into production.
Cupra small EV to be an evolution of 2021's UrbanRebel concept.
Cupra's design, like VW's also previews a hatchback. The carmaker's small EV is said to be an evolution of the 2021 UrbanRebel concept though the overall look will be a lot more toned down. The teaser previews a hatchback with compact proportions, a thick C-pillar and a rounded bonnet.
All three models are expected to go into production the VW Group's plant in Spain. The company has commenced building a Gigafactory in the country on the back of a $10.57 billion investment.
