The upcoming Tata HBX micro SUV has been captured on camera performing a road test near Khedshivapur, Pune. The Indian carmaker has been readying the entry-level SUV for quite some time now. As seen in the images, we can say that the car appears to be nearing the production-ready stage. The test mule is still heavily camouflaged and does seem to get several production-ready parts, which appear to be similar to what we saw on the concept car at the 2020 Auto Expo. The face of the micro SUV is reminiscent of the new Safari, thanks to its split lighting with the main headlamp unit position closer to the bumper, while the LED DRLs are placed above, flanking the grille.

The test mule appears to be a lower-spec variant
Despite being heavily camouflaged, the test mule can be seen wearing a blue colour shade courtesy of leaked images. The test mule appears to be a lower-spec variant featuring halogen headlamps with LED DRLs integrated on the stripe above and circular halogen fog lamps. Based on the previous spy shots, we can say that the micro SUV borrows some of the cues from its elder siblings like the Nexon and the Safari.
On the inside, the Tata HBX will get an all-black cabin with a flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, a large instrument cluster with a MID unit, a start-stop button, and a small stick-out display similar to the one on the Nexon.

The Tata HBX concept was showcased last year at the Auto Expo.
It was at the Auto Expo 2020 when we first got to see the pre-production version of the HBX. It is expected to be launched in the country by the end of this year. The micro SUV will be based on Tata Motors' ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform, which underpins the Altroz premium hatchback.
Under the hood, the Tata HBX is likely to be offered with a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor that also powers the Altroz premium hatchback. The petrol mill develops 85 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is expected to come to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and an optional AMT unit.
