Tata Hexa: 10 Things You Need To Know
Key Highlights
  • The Tata Hexa will be a replacement for the Tata Aria
  • It gets a 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine with 3 transmission options
  • Tata has given loads of features in the Hexa

The Tata Hexa is the flagship model from Tata Motors and replaces the Aria. The Hexa is based on the Aria platform as well but gets all-new design from Tata Motors' design teams in India, UK and Italy. Tata Motors has launched the Hexa in India at a price of Rs. 11.99 lakh. Powered by the Tata Safari Storme's 2.2-litre VARICOR engine, the Hexa is loaded to the brim with features and equipment. Here are the prices of the Tata Hexa.

Watch Tata Hexa Review Here

  1. The Hexa follows what Tata calls the 'Impact' design language and is designed by Tata's three design studios in India, Italy and the UK. Up front is a muscular dual-coloured bumper with a large gloss black front grille with a chrome strip connecting the swept-back projector headlamps. The overall look of the Hexa is butch, and though it is based on the Aria platform, and is a replacement for the Aria, the Hexa gets a completely new design.
  2. The all-black interior gives the Tata Hexa a sporty feel with soft touch materials all around. The seats are fitted with premium upholstery and there are plenty of utility spaces in all three rows. The driver's seat is 8-way adjustable with horizontal, vertical, angular recline and lumbar controls. Each row gets automatic climate control with personalised air flow and speed control on the AC vents.
  3. At the central console is a touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation. There is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but it's got voice recognition and smartphone integration with ConnectNext app suite. There's a 8-speaker JBL sound system with four door speakers, four tweeters, a centre speaker, sub-woofer and power amplifier. Then there is a Juke-Car App which allows you to play your collection of songs and also has systems like service and diagnostic tools, navigation support and eight options to choose the ambient lighting.
  4. The Tata Hexa will be powered by the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged VARICOR diesel engine that makes 148 bhp and 320 Nm of torque on the XE trim and 154 bhp and 400Nm on the other trims. The Hexa gets either a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The manual gets the option of both a rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive whereas the automatic is only available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration.
  5. The Tata Hexa gets large 19-inch alloy wheels which look quite smart, and more importantly, come with 200mm ground clearance to take on rough terrain with ease. The Borg Warner all-wheel drive system can shift 25 to 40 per cent of the torque to the front wheels and there's also decent wheel articulation to get out of sticky situations.
  6. The manual Hexa gets what Tata says are four 'Super Drive Modes' - Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road. The Auto and Rough Road modes run full-time all-wheel drive, with the Auto mode being more road-biased while the Rough Road gives out better power at lower revs and a less intrusive electronic stability program setting. There's also a Hill Hold Control and Hill Descent Control. Comfort and Dynamic driving modes use the torque-on-demand all-wheel drive. The six-speed automatic gets Economy, Sport and Auto-sensing Race Car Performance mode and also offers the choice of choosing the gears manually.
  7. The Tata Hexa comes packed with safety features, including six airbags, ESP with traction control and state-of-the-art four channel ABS with EBD, along with automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers.
  8. The Tata Hexa is available with three customisation kits - Tuff kit, Expedition Kit and Luxe Kit, costing between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.3 lakh. The Tuff Kit, at Rs 1.3 lakh, includes a new body kit that features a head-up display unit with tyre pressure monitoring system, a roof box, front, side and rear skirts, a wireless charging tray and 3D moulded floor mats. The Expedition Kit at Rs 51,700 offers a roof platform and a waterproof luggage bag, along with 3D moulded mats, puddle lamps and a shovel. The base Luxe Kit costs just Rs 12,150 and offers chrome embellishments like ORVM covers and chrome garnishes for the tail-gate, tail lamp and side moulding.
  9. The Tata Hexa is primarily positioned as a Mahindra XUV500 rival, but can also be seen as an option to even the Toyota Innova Crysta, expected to undercut the Innova Crysta by a fair margin in price terms, but not lacking in any way in terms of features and performance. In fact, the Tata Hexa seems to offer the best package in value for money terms. Here is price comparison of all the variants of the Tata Hexa and the Mahindra XUV 500
