Tata Nexon To Be Launched in India; Variant Details And Price Expectation
Key Highlights
  • The Tata Nexon comes in 4 variants - XE, XM, XT, and XZ+
  • Tata Nexon competes with Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport

Tata Motors is all set to launch its newest addition to the SUV segment in India - the Nexon. The Nexon is the company's first subcompact SUV in India and it has high hopes from the car. To begin with the company has targeted the burgeoning SUV segment in India and beside that, it's pushing forward yet another subcompact car for the Indian customers. It's been a long journey for the Nexon as the company had first showcased the car at the 2016 Auto Expo, post which we saw the production version at this year's Geneva Motor Show and now finally it's all set to be launched in India.

The Tata Nexon is built on the same Impact design philosophy as Tata's recent line-up of cars and thus comes with a very intricate styling and exterior features. The company has ensured that the styling of the car is substantially different than the Tiago or Tigor as it doesn't want the Nexon to look like a have baked job, however, the styling carries forward the design language from other cars like the Tiago and the Bolt. The headlights for example still swoop in a very distinctively Tata way and they come with LED daytime running lights and projectors. The grille, painted in gloss black, harks back to the likes of the Safari Storme with its bold and in-your-face design and we're glad there's no chrome in that bit.

The new sub-4 metre SUV will be available in four variants - XE, XM, XT, and XZ+ and in both petrol and diesel engine options. Most of the features that make the new Nexon premium will be offered with the top-end XT and XZ+ trims. Especially, exterior offering like the white accents for the foglamps, dual tone paint scheme, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels and much more.

The Tata Nexon is much well-equipped across variants though as there are some great features on the car. Features like - the three-tone interior, premium full-fabric upholstery, multiple cubby holes and cup holders, umbrella holder in the front door, and glove box with utility moulding are standard across all variants. On the other hand, the centre console with front armrest and sliding tambour door, rear 60:40 split seats and a 6.5-inch floating touchscreen ConnectNext infotainment display will only be offered with the top-of-the-line ZX+ model.

There's Android Auto and Apple Carplay along with voice command recognition, 8 speakers, voice command for climate control and much more. Dual airbags and ABS with EBD come as standard across all variants while parking sensors are available with the XM, XT, and XZ+ trims.

Powering the Tata Nexon is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol motor, and a newly-developed 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, joining the Revotorq family. The petrol unit makes 108 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel model makes the same 108 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. The brochure also confirms that the Nexon will only be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox initially, although, we have already shared the spy images of the AMT model, which will be launched at a later date. The Nexon also gets multi drive modes - Eco, City, and Sport, something that we're familiar with.

Bookings for the Tata Nexon have already commenced and interested customers can book the cars for a token of Rs. 11,000 across all Tata showrooms in India. Being the first subcompact SUV from the homegrown automaker, the Nexon shoulders the responsibility of competing with the likes of segment leaders like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport, along with other players like Mahindra TUV300 and even the Honda WR-V. This is why we expect prices to start from Rs. 6.2 lakh and go right up to Rs. 8 lakh which will be very competitive pricing.
