The all-new Tata Punch micro SUV was unveiled in India yesterday, and the carmaker will announce the prices of the car on October 20, 2021. It's the first SUV from Tata Motors to be underpinned by the ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform and developed on the brand's Impact 2.0 design language. The pre-bookings for the entry-level SUV are already open for a token amount of Rs. 21,000. Moreover, the company has revealed key specifications and other details of the soon-to-be-launched Punch SUV. When launched, the Punch will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. Here's how the recently unveiled Punch stacks up against its competitors on paper.

The Tata Punch comes with projector lamps and LED DRLs, beefy cladded bumper with tri-arrow pattern grille, side and underbody cladding and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels

In terms of dimensions, the Tata Punch is 3827 mm long, 1742 mm wide and stands tall at 1615mm. It is the longest and widest among the three. In contrast, the Mahindra TUV300 and Maruti Suzuki Ignis span the same length at 3700 mm, but the former is the tallest among them all, measuring 1655 mm. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is the smallest car in terms of proportion which stands at 3700 mm in length, 1690 mm in width, and 1595 mm in height. Interestingly, the Tata Punch has a ground clearance of 187 mm which is better than any of its rivals. The Punch boasts a wheelbase of 2445 mm which is more than the Ignis by 10 mm and a lot more compared to the KUV100.

Interiors & Features:

The cabin of the Tata Punch looks modern and well-laid with a dual-tone paint scheme. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and optional Tata's iRA connectivity suite, flat-bottom steering wheel, engine start-stop button, automatic climate control, powered auto-folding wing mirrors, cruise control, auto climate control, cooled glovebox, auto-sensing wipers and auto headlights, a 7-inch instrument panel, 90-degree opening doors, and more. As for safety, the Punch gets dual-airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD and an industry-first brake sway control. The top-spec models also get a reverse-parking camera.

All the three cars come loaded with features and creature comfort

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes with a dual-tone black and light beige interior carrying a decent fit and finish. The car sports a touchscreen screen with SmartPlay Studio 2.0 infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It comes loaded with auto climate control, a multi-function steering wheel, electrically operable ORVMs, and more. For safety, Maruti offers dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX seats, seatbelt pre-tensioners and a reverse parking camera with guiding lines.

The Mahindra KUV100 sports an all-black with a cabin carbon-fibre-like texture on the top of the dashboard. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking camera, Bluesense App, keyless entry, tilt-adjustable power steering, front and rear armrest and cooled glove box among others. In terms of safety features, the KUV100 NXT comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and speed alert as standard.

The Tata Punch is powered by the company's tried and tested 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine with Dyna-Pro technology, which is tuned to make 84 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm at 3300 rpm. The mill comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an optional AMT unit. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis, on the other hand, is available with a 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine, making 82 bhp at 6000 rpm with 113 Nm at 4200 rpm. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional AMT gearbox. The Mahindra KUV100 NXT gets an mFALCON G80 petrol that is good for 82 bhp and 115Nm of power figures. Unlike the other two rivals, the KUV100 NXT gets only a 5-speed manual gearbox.
