Tata Tigor: Which Variant Should You Buy?
Key Highlights
  • The Tata Tigor gets a decent list of features
  • Tata has kept the pricing competitive
  • The Tata Tigor gets the same engines as the Tiago hatchback

The Tata Tigor was launched at a starting price of Rs. 4.7 lakh for the petrol variants and Rs. 5.60 lakh for the diesel variants. The petrol variants get a 1.2 Litre 3-cylinder motor which makes 84 bhp and 114 Nm while the diesel engine is a 1.05 Litre 3-cylinder oil-burner making 69 bhp and 140 Nm. Both the models have a 5-speed gearbox. There is no AMT variant in the offing, at the moment. Both, the petrol and the diesel variants have four trims which are the XE, XT, XZ and the XZ (O). We try and figure out which variant of the Tata Tigor will be a good buy.

Tata Tigor Launch and Prices

Tata Tigor XE

Petrol: Rs. 4.7 lakh | Diesel: Rs. 5.6 lakh | (Ex-showroom, Delhi)

Both the petrol and the diesel variants of Tata Tigor have the same variants and with similar features. Starting with the exterior features, the base XE variant of the Tigor gets regular headlamps. Also, it gets steel wheels with a cover only for the hub. The wing mirrors on the XE variant are not body-coloured and neither do they get integrated turn indicators. The XE variants do get dual-tone finish for the cabin but no infotainment system at all. It does have a manual AC though. There are no power windows either. ABS with EBD and airbags have been given a miss, even on the driver side. They aren't optional either. So in case you are on a tight budget and need no frills in your car, the Tata Tigor XE makes a good case for itself.

Tata Tigor XT

Petrol: Rs. 5.41 lakh | Diesel: Rs. 6.31 lakh | (Ex-showroom, Delhi)

The features on the XE and the XT variants of the Tata Tigor are more or less the same. The Tigor XT still gets steel wheels but with full wheel covers. Also, the wing mirrors are body-coloured and get integrated turn indicators. Inside, the Tigor XT gets a Harman infotainment system with 4 speakers and AM/FM, USB and Bluetooth connectivity options. One also gets navigation and can connect his/her phone via apps to the system. It gets reverse parking sensors and ABS with EBD too. But for some strange reason, Tata isn't offering airbag(s) on the XT trim of the Tigor. The XT trim is a good buy for the money you pay, except for the airbags bit.

Tata Tigor XZ

Petrol: Rs. 5.9 lakh | Diesel: Rs. 6.8 lakh | (Ex-showroom, Delhi)

The XZ is the second trim from the top for the Tata Tigor and is a definite step up from the XE and the XT variants. The XZ trims get smoked projector headlamps and 15-inch alloy wheels along with chrome detailing on the waistline of the car and the front foglamp bezel. Moving inside, the AC vents are body-coloured and also get the chrome treatment. Then, there is the Harman infotainment system with four speakers and two tweeters as well. Like the XT, this trim too gets steering mounted controls, speed dependent auto volume and auto locking mechanism and has app connectivity as well. ABS with EBD and dual airbags are a part of features as well along with reverse parking sensors and a rear defogger too. So yes, for Rs. 50,000 more, you get slightly more kit and airbags too.

Tata Tigor XZ (O)

Petrol: Rs. 6.19 lakh | Diesel: Rs. 7.09 lakh | (Ex-showroom, Delhi)

The XZ (O) is the top-of-the-line trim for the Tata Tigor and it surely gets the entire bells and whistles one could possibly need in a car belonging to this segment. In addition to the features on the Tigor XZ, the XZ (O) gets a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Harman with four speakers and 4 tweeters along with more features such as voice recognition, SMS read-out, image and video playback and an SD card reader too. Also, the XZ (O) trims of the Tigor get reverse parking camera and a fully automated temperature control. Compared to its rivals, the top of the line XZ (O) trim comes with a lot of features and at a competitive price as well. The value-for-money quotient is strong on this one.
