Ford launched the new Ranger pick-up truck towards the end of last year, and the Everest (Endeavour for India) follows it in being the next model to receive an update. The Everest borrows most of its design cues and underpinnings from its pick-up truck counterpart, and the SUV looks absolutely stunning. While the boxy and upright design looks familiar, when compared to its predecessor the design looks like a departure, with the SUV looking even boxier than before and featuring bold shoulder lines, flatter nose and bigger 'C' shaped headlamps.

The Everest has also grown a size larger with a 50 mm increase in width and 50 mm longer wheelbase. This increase in size will not only translate to a bigger cabin, but also provide better handling. The SUV was also launched with 3 engine options, including a 2-litre turbo-diesel, a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel, and a 3-litre V6 turbo-diesel mated to a 6-speed manual or a 10 speed automatic transmission just like the Ranger, and will be available in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. While the Ranger Raptor was announced last month, its unclear if Ford plans to give the Everest a similar 'Raptor' treatment.

To add to its ruggedness, the Everest features an 800mm water wading ability, and has a roof that can hold a static weight of upto 350 kgs. What that means is though on the move the roof can only hold upto 100 kgs, once the car is stationary, you can even use a rooftop tent for your camping adventures.

The SUV also features a newly designed interior with a 12.4-inch or 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a large portrait oriented 12-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen, both depending on the variant. The car was launched in 4 variants with the top-spec Platinum variant getting premium features like ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, auto climate control, Ford pass connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, USB charging points in all three rows, 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, cooled glovebox, power folding third-row seats and a powered tailgate.

The SUV also comes loaded with premium safety features including nine airbags, hands-free parking, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and Ford's Pre-Collision Assist with Intersection Assist, which allows the car to brake if it detects a possible collision either with the car in front or oncoming traffic.

While there's no official word on if Ford will bring the Everest/Endeavour to the Indian markets, Ford could bring the SUV here via a CBU import route later. Ford could also potentially restart making cars in India after being granted approval under the government's PLI scheme, however it is unclear how Ford explores this option.
