Ferrari has successfully auctioned off the 500th LaFerrari at an impressive sum of $7,000,000 beating the previous LaFerrari auction record by more than $1.8 million. When Ferrari first kick started production of the LaFerrari, it had stated that the production of this hybrid supercar will be limited to 499 units. But plans changed following the earthquakes that hit Italy last year. The Maranello-based manufacturer then decided to build one more LaFerrari coupe and round off the figure to 500. There was a strong reason behind doing this and it's purely a charitable one. The car was to be auctioned and all the proceeds from this sale will be handed over for the reconstruction of central Italy.

The unexpected LaFerrari #500 will feature the Italian tricolor flag on the front fascia along with a unique plaque on the inside to denote its special status.
The humongous price tag not only makes it the most expensive LaFerrari ever to be sold at an auction but it also makes it the most valuable car ever built in the 21st century which has gone under the hammer. Of course, the sum is still a long shout away from being the most expensive car sold at an auction ever, but it surely is the most amount ever paid for a new car at an auction
The Ferrari LaFerrari comes with a 6.3-litre V12 unit which is capable of punching out 789 bhp and 700Nm of torque. There's also a 161 bhp KERS unit (which Ferrari calls HY-KERS) which helps in providing short bursts of power. The combined output therefore stands at a staggering 950bhp, while it develops a massive 900Nm of torque. 0-100 Km/h is achieved in under 3 seconds while top speed is in excess of 350 Km/h.
These figures make it a bit more special, don't they? And they make you understand the sentiments behind buying this car and shelling out five times more money than its original price tag. After all, it's all for a cause, isn't it?
