The Skoda Octavia is unarguably the most successful car Skoda has ever made and now the company has reached a new milestone with the 3rd generation of it. Globally, the 3rd generation of the Skoda Octavia has reached 1 million units since the company started manufacturing it since 2013. Built on the MQB platform which is shared by popular models like the VW Golf & even Audi A3, the Octavia, with the numbers it has raked in, proves to be a popular car. Skoda has sold over 5 million units since the Octavia first arrived in 1996.
The Czech automaker was bought by Volkswagen 25 years ago and since then the sales have grown over six times. The company has gained a lot too as it now has access to VW platforms and technology. Globally the most recent updates were the all-wheel drive added to the Octavia RS which is powered by a 2.0- litre TDI engine.
In 2015, Skoda sold over 4.32 lakh units of Octavias across the world which is 11 per cent more than what company sold in 2014. In addition to the production at home in the Czech Republic the company also locally assembles the Octavia in China,Russia, India & Kazakhstan. Skoda also claims that it has sold over 70,500 units already in the first two months of 2016.
In a bid to increase sales in India, Skoda had launched its 'anniversary edition' last year but since then the company has been silent and has focused more on giving attention to the new-gen Superb but it wouldn't hurt if India got the RS variant now, would it? Globally, the car is available in both hatch and estate form and either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. India of course only has the hatch/sedan which is a front-wheel and available in both petrol & diesel versions.
