Harley-Davidson occupies top spot in the list of bestselling superbikes in 2016-17. Sales of superbikes considered in this list all cost above Rs 5 lakh and have engine capacity of above 500 cc. The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is, by far, the highest selling premium motorcycle model, selling over 2,100 bikes in the April 2016 to March 2017 period. That is more than 24 per cent of the total 8,696 superbikes sold in the financial year. But overall superbike sales for FY2017 didn't show much growth and remained flat, compared to sales for FY2016, when 8,632 bikes were sold.

Harley-Davidson has emerged as the undisputed leader in overall superbike sales volumes. In fact, another Harley model makes it to third position on this list - is the Harley-Davidson Iron 883. What is interesting is that sales of bikes with engine capacity above 1,000 cc but equal to 1,600 cc have increased in FY2017, although sales of 800 cc - 1000 cc bikes fell. Triumph Motorcycles is fast gaining ground in sales of its bestselling Street Twin model and popular adventure tourer series, the Tiger 800. The Tiger 800 has not made it to the top 5 bestsellers' list, but comes in at a close sixth position, selling 216 bikes. At seventh position is the Suzuki Hayabusa which sold 209 bikes, thanks to price cuts after Suzuki started assembling the Hayabusa in India.
The Harley-Davidson Street 750, the least expensive Harley on sale in India, is by far the highest selling premium motorcycle model costing above Rs 5 lakh. In all, 2,113 Street 750 bikes were sold in FY 2017. The bike is powered by a liquid-cooled, 749 cc v-twin, called the 'Revolution X ', which makes 59 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. Harley-Davidson doesn't publish power figures of its engines. Prices for the Harley-Davidson Street 750 start at Rs 4.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Benelli TNT 600i ABS
The DSK Benelli TNT 600i is the least expensive motorcycle on sale in India with an inline-four engine. Priced at Rs XXX lakh, the Benelli TNT 600i offers a smooth engine and decent performance for first-timers in the world of superbikes. Powered by an in-line four, liquid-cooled 600 cc engine, the TNT 600i has a power output rated at 85 bhp, kicking in at 11,500 rpm and peak torque of 54.6 Nm at 10,000 rpm. It may need an open throttle and a lower gear to really keep things exciting, but the roar of the in-line four from the twin underseat exhausts is something which will certainly attract many first-time superbike buyers. Priced at Rs 5.82 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Benelli TNT 600i makes a very attractive proposition in the entry-level superbike segment.
Harley-Davidson Iron 883
The second Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the bestsellers' list is the Iron 883, which sold 474 bikes in the financial year 2017. As the name suggests, the Iron 883 is powered by an air-cooled, 883 cc v-twin "Evolution" engine, which makes 70 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Prices for the Harley-Davidson Iron 883 start at Rs 8.11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650
The Kawasaki Ninja 650 makes a strong case for itself as a decent touring motorcycle, with a robust 649 cc parallel-twin engine which makes 67 bhp of power and 65.7 Nm of torque. Kawasaki has recently launched the 2017 model of the Ninja 650, which has the same engine, but meets new Bharat Stage IV (BS IV) emission norms. The 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 gets updated styling inspired by the ZX-10R, loses a substantial 15 kg of weight and gets standard ABS and slipper clutch. With the updates, the price has also gone up, and now starts at Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Triumph Street Twin
The entry-level modern classic motorcycle in Triumph's Bonneville series, the Street Twin boasts a new 900 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine which makes 54 bhp of maximum power and 80 Nm of peak torque kicking in at 3,200 rpm. It may be the entry-level Bonneville, but it gets all the technology associated with a modern motorcycle - ride-by-wire, ABS and even switchable traction control. And less than a year after its launch, the Street Twin has become the highest-selling model in Triumph India's line-up. It's also the least expensive Triumph on sale, and priced at Rs 7,00,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
