It has been a rough road for the Indian car market for the past few years. Unlike last year, 2021 has been more of a recovering one for the automotive industry as it had to tackle challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic second wave and chip shortage. Despite unprecedented challenges to the automobile industry, there have been several important electric two-wheelers that made their debut in the Indian market during 2021. As the year comes to a close, we take a look back at the top five electric two-wheeler launches of the year that managed to leave a mark.
Ola S1
The Ola electric scooter is available in two variants - S1 and S1 Pro
The Ola S1 e-scooter is the brand's first electric vehicle that is offered in two variants - S1 and S1 Pro. Ola Electric recently commenced deliveries of the electric scooter in Bengaluru and Chennai. The Ola S1 is priced at Rs. 99,999, going up to Rs. 1.30 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi after FAME II subsidies) for the S1 Pro. Both variants differ in performance, range, number of riding modes, and number of colours, although the basic design is the same. The S1 Pro is more feature-loaded over the base S1 variant. The Ola S1 offers a top speed of 90 kmph and a range of 121 km. The top-spec Ola S1 Pro comes with a claimed top speed of 115 kmph with a range of 181 km.
Bounce Infinity E1
The Bounce Infinity E1 gets a 2 kWh lithium-ion battery with a range of 85 km on a single charge
Bengaluru-based Bounce ventured into the electric mobility space with the launch of the Infinity E1. The Infinity E1 is priced at Rs. 68,999 with a standard lithium-ion swappable battery. The company also retails the e-scooter with the battery-as-a-service option that is priced at Rs. 45,099 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Pre-bookings for the Bounce Infinity are already open, while deliveries will happen from March 2022. Do note, the e-scooter is FAME II eligible and can receive subsidies from state governments.
Earth Energy Glyde+
The Earth Energy Glyde+ uses a 2.4 kW electric motor that develops 26 Nm of peak torque
Mumbai-based Earth Energy EV forayed into the electric two-wheeler segment with three new products - Glyde+ electric scooter. Alongside the e-scooter, the company also launched its two electric motorcycles - Evolve R and the Evolve X. The electric scooter uses a 2.4 kW electric motor that develops 26 Nm of peak torque and offers a top speed of 60 kmph. The scooter is said to be inspired by eagles in terms of design. The company claims a range of 100 km on a single charge, and the model uses a 52 Ah lithium-ion battery. The battery can be charged from 0-80 per cent in 40 minutes using a fast charger, while the standard time is 2.5 hours.
Simple One
The Simple One has a top speed of 105 kmph and a range of over 200 km
The Simple One is Simple Energy's first electric scooter priced at Rs. 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Do note, the price will change in different states according to individual state subsidies. It has a 4.8 kWh lithium-ion battery offering a maximum claimed range of 236 km, with a normal claimed range of 203 km in Eco mode. Top speed is claimed at 105 kmph, with the acceleration of 0 to 40 kmph claimed in just 2.9 seconds. The Simple One has 72 Nm of torque and 4.5 kW of power.
EeVe Soul
The EeVe Soul gets two lithium ferrous phosphate batteries and offers 120 km range.
The EeVe Soul electric scooter is the latest entrant in the Indian electric two-wheeler space. Priced at Rs. 1.40 lakh, the e-scooter comes loaded with a host of features like IOT functions, anti-theft lock system, GPS navigation, USB port, keyless experience, reverse mode, central braking system geo-tagging and geo-fencing. It comes with two lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) battery packs stored under the seat offering a claimed range of 120 km (eco-mode). It can be charged fully in 3-4 hours, and since the batteries are detachable and swappable, they can be easily taken out plugged in at home or office
