The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross was the first car to be launched under the company's premium Nexa brand and it's the flag bearer for Maruti's premium brand. Five years later, it still remains the flagship model. Now the S-Cross may not has changed much in terms of looks, but there have been significant updates made to the model, over the period. This time around, the crossover has made its transition to BS6 and that includes a major upgrade under its hood. Here are the highlights.

Under the hood, the 2020 S-Cross gets the 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine that makes 103 bhp
The biggest update on the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross comes to the powertrain. The compact SUV draws power from the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that develops 103 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque. Needless to say, the engine is BS6 compliant and also powers the Ciaz, XL6, Ertiga, and the Vitara Brezza in the brand's line-up. The motor comes with the SHVS mild-hybrid technology that enhances power delivery and fuel efficiency. The company says that the S-Cross now delivers a fuel economy of 18.55 kmpl. Transmission options include a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic unit. The crossover is offered in total of seven trims and five colour options.

The dual battery setup which has a lithium ion battery and a lead acid one store the energy generated during braking to assist the engine's idle start-stop and the torque assist functions. The energy stored in the Lithium-ion battery assists during acceleration and hence as we said earlier makes it peppy. It's high off the ground and that's one reason why Maruti Suzuki calls it an SUV, though one still might say it's a crossover.

Other features remain the same on the new S-Cross petrol including projector lens headlamps with LED daytime running lights, dual-tone alloy wheels, LED taillights and chrome highlights. The cabin boasts of features like engine start-stop, multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming and anti-glare inside rear view mirror, height adjustable driver's seat, automatic climate control, cruise control and more.

In term of safety and driver aid features, the new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is equipped with rear parking camera, reverse parking sensors, rear park assist, gear shift indicator, dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, high speed warning alert, and ISOFIX child seat restraint system. These safety features are standard across all variants and the S-Cross Petrol is also compliant with safety norms including frontal offset crash, side impact and pedestrian safety.
