Toyota Kirloskar Motor has stopped accepting bookings for the Innova Crysta diesel in India. The company is formally accepting bookings for the petrol version online, while the diesel version is not listed on the e-bookings site. One can still see specifications for the diesel version listed though. There's no confirmation if the halt in bookings is temporary or permanent. carandbike has reached out to Toyota India seeking clarification for the same but is yet to receive a response. We will update this piece as and when the company shares the same.

The Toyota Innova Crysta remains a strong seller for the automaker, especially the diesel version
That being said, Toyota dealers that carandbike spoke to confirmed that bookings have been stopped. Select dealerships, however, are still accepting bookings for the Innova Crysta diesel but a delivery timeline is not being promised. Existing bookings will be honoured, the dealers said. Toyota's social media handles can also be seen promoting the petrol versions of the Innova Crysta.
The Toyota Innova Crysta diesel is equipped with the 2.4-litre diesel engine tuned for 147 bhp and 360 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.7-litre petrol motor meanwhile, produces 164 bhp and 245 Nm of peak torque, with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Power is sent to the rear wheels with both engines. There was also the 2.8-litre diesel automatic available on the Innova Crysta but was discontinued in 2020.
Toyota could introduce the new-generation Innova later this year with a petrol-hybrid engine
It's particularly shocking to see the Innova Crysta diesel being pulled off the shelves, even temporarily, considering its more popular choice amongst buyers. The diesel version is known for its legendary reliability and low cost of ownership. The update also comes around the same time as speculations are rife of the next-generation Innova breaking cover soon. The new-generation MPV is expected to be unveiled later this year and could see big upgrades from the current version.

Speculations suggest that the new-gen Toyota Innova will be based on a monocoque platform and will get a petrol-hybrid engine, likely borrowed from the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It's also likely to go petrol-only with the monocoque platform promising more cabin space, better ride and handling, and overall a lighter structure, making it a more efficiently packaged offering. An official confirmation though is still awaited. More details on the new Innova are expected to be announced later this month.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Innova Crysta petrol is priced between Rs. 17.45 lakh and Rs. 23.83 lakh. The MPV is offered in six and seven-seater versions. Sitting at the premium end of the segment, the model competes against the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, among other offerings.
