Traffic Fines by Pune RTO

As per the data received from the Maharashtra Traffic Police, Pune has one of the highest fatal road accident figures in the whole State. In 2018 alone, the city witnessed 334 deaths from road accidents, while the adjoining rural areas here saw more than 915 deaths during the same time. The government has ruled major reasons to be over-speeding and the lack of respect for traffic rules. However, such a scenario has been noticed all over India and not just in Pune over the years.

To curb this carelessness, the Union Government listed a few provisions to help with the stringent implementation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998. This was passed in mid-2019, making it applicable from 1st September 2019.

There were quite a few revisions made to the Act, which also included increased challan rates. This further led to a ruckus from all around Maharashtra, leaving all on-field police confused as to which rates need to be followed. What made the confusion worse was the absence of a formal notice for the traffic police from the State Government. However, after a long discussion, the government decided to apply the Act.

With this article, you will learn about the revised Pune RTO fines, while also reviewing the difference between the new and previous challan rates.

Was the traffic fine reduced in Pune?

To answer this in one word, no. Although the state government was determined to impose the new penalties on citizens, the final decision was to keep the prices high. On the other hand, according to the amended Act, there has been quite a hike in the prices of traffic fines implemented by the RTO in Pune.

What documents do you need to avoid getting a traffic challan in Pune?

As far as the Pune traffic rules go, all car drivers have to carry a few necessary documents. If you are in Pune, these are the documents that you must carry at all times:

  • The RC (Registration Certificate) of the vehicle.
  • The PUC or Pollution under Control certificate.
  • The Driver's License of the person driving the vehicle.
  • The car insurance policy documents.

If by chance the driver is not able to produce all documents when asked, then he/she will have to pay the challan amount (which depends on the level of violation) for violating the set laws.

Traffic Rules you should follow to avoid Challans

While new rules are being implemented almost every year, there are some common rules that you must follow in Pune in order to avoid any kind traffic violation. Here is a list.

  • Whenever you are driving a car, make sure that you are carrying all the necessary documents, mentioned above in the article. Even though you should carry the hard copies, in case you forget, ensure that you have soft copies at all times. The first thing any traffic policeman will do on stoppage is ask for these documents.
  • Please ensure that you wear your seatbelts at all times while in a car. The majority of the people think it is only necessary for the driver to wear a seatbelt; however, all occupants must abide by this rule. Although this is to avoid any traffic fines, it will also help you ensure that you do not get heavily injured during an accident or unforeseen mishap.
  • Refrain from using a mobile phone while driving. Statistics have shown that usage of mobile phones is the leading cause of road accidents. This not only puts you at risk, but also puts the lives of pedestrians at risk on the road.
  • On every road in Pune, you will find speed limits mentioned. These are the speeds that you should follow while travelling on the road. Pay proper attention to that, and keep your car's speed well within the same.
  • Keep an eye out for road signs on the side. This is so that you do not miss out on the important rules of driving on that road.
  • Do not drive a car drunk or under the influence of any drugs. This will not only result in fatal accidents, but the penalty charged can be a lot more than just a fine, even leading to jail time.

With this information, now you are up-to-date with the amendments made to the Motor Vehicles Act. Keeping in mind all that is mentioned here, you will not only avoid traffic fines but also keep yourself and people around you safer on the roads.
