Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster at a price of Rs. 11.11 lakh (ex-showroom). The Bonneville Speedmaster is Triumph's least expensive cruiser and extends the hugely popular modern classic range with the introduction of a cruiser. The Bonneville Speedmaster is based on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber, but gets revised ergonomics, and gets standard cruise control which the Bonneville Bobber lacks. Triumph Motorcycles hopes the Bonneville Speedmaster, with a pillion seat and more relaxed cruiser ergonomics will appeal to a lot more riders than the Bonneville Bobber which has not been as successful in India as it has been in markets abroad.
"The modern classic motorcycles constitute about 45 per cent of our sales and the Speedmaster is positioned as a cruiser in our modern classic range. The cruisers in our range so far are 1,600cc and above including the Thunderbird Storm, Thunderbird LT and the Rocket III. There was a consumer demand for a cruiser between 900 cc and 1,600 cc and that is the demand that the Bonneville Speedmaster will address," Vimal Sumbly, MD, Triumph Motorcycles India, told Carandbike.

The Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster shares the same engine with the Bonneville Bobber. The 1,200 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine makes 76 bhp at 6,100 rpm, and 106 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The chassis, swingarm and suspension are also shared with the Bonneville Bobber. The Speedmaster though gets twin 310 mm discs on the front wheel gripped by two-piston Brembo calipers, while at the rear, it gets a single 255 mm disc with a Nissin caliper. The steering rake on the Speedmaster is sharper than that on the Bonneville Bobber. The Speedmaster also gets a fatter tyre up front but on a smaller 16-inch wheel.

(Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster)The Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster will compete in the cruiser segment with the likes of the Harley-Davidson Street Bob and even the Indian Scout Sixty, although the Scout Sixty is a full import and is a slightly more expensive proposition. The Speedmaster though offers a lot of customisation options including a list of over 130 original custom accessories and the choice of two 'inspiration' kits - Maverick and Highway. The Maverick kist costs around Rs. 1.1 lakh and offers a single leather seat, flat handlebar and blacked out Vance & Hines exhausts. The Highway kit costs around Rs. 1.26 lakh and offers add-ons like leather panniers, highway windscreen and a pillion back rest.
Positioned as an entry-level cruiser in the Triumph Motorcycles line-up, the Speedmaster offers agile handling, with a refined 1200 cc engine, two-up capability and stunning styling which is bound to make it a popular cruiser offering in that price segment. In India, the Speedmaster will be available in three colours - Cranberry Red, Jet Black and Fusion Black with Phantom White with hand-painted coach lines.The Speedmaster comes with ride-by-wire and two riding modes (Road and Rain), standard ABS, switchable traction control and standard cruise control.
