Triumph Plans to Sell 2000 Motorcycles in India Annually by 2020
The stupendous success of Triumph in India stands testimony to the growing premium motorcycle market in the country that is only set to grow further. The British bike maker that launched the new generation Bonneville range just last week at the 2016 Auto Expo is banking on the same growth and plans to sell 2000 motorcycles per year in India by 2020.

In a recent conversation, Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph India told Carandbike.com that the company is aiming to sell 2000 motorcycles in the country by 2020 as part of its ambitious growth plan. The manufacturer expects the domestic superbike market to double in terms of sales by the end of the decade, which will only help the automaker as it plans to introduce new and improved products over the coming years.

While the sales figure projected may seem ambitious, it certainly isn't far-fetched. Triumph arrived in India in late 2013 and the previous two years saw the company establish its presence with the popular selling Bonneville and Tiger range of motorcycles. The Ducati, Kawasaki and Benelli rival also managed to take the lead in sales right from the start retailing a cumulative 2500 units till date, as per SIAM data.

Triumph India's growth plans will also see the bike maker expand its dealership footprint by the end of the decade to 20-25 outlets. The company currently sells its products from 12 dealerships. With the targets in place, Triumph is now banking heavily on the new generation Bonneville range with improved power and technology to bring in the volumes. The Classic range forms 45 percent of the manufacturer's total sales in India and has helped maintain its 30 percent market share in the 500-800cc segment.

Triumph Street Twin

The new Triumph Street Twin that was launched at the expo priced at Rs. 6.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) is now the entry-level motorcycle from Triumph that gets a revised new styling keeping up the retro look, whereas the improved power and technology on board has made the model torquier.

Being a water cooled unit, the 900cc twin-cylinder engine on the Triumph Street Twin is also India-friendly as it ensures lesser heating compared to the outgoing model, which makes it easier to ride and live with. Talking about bringing newer motorcycles to India, Vimal cleared that the Hinckley based bike maker only wants to bring models that are technologically better by 20-30 per cent over their current versions.
