Triumph Motorcycles will launch the new Tiger Explorer by the end of July, CarandBike has learnt. The new 2017 Tiger Explorer is already on sale in markets abroad and is available in six variants across the XR and XC range, but for India, Triumph will be introducing only the Tiger Explorer XCx variant. According to sources, only 10 units of the Tiger Explorer XCx will be initially offered on sale in India, and will be brought in as completely built units (CBUs). Prices of the 2017 Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx are expected to be around Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Tiger Explorer XC has been on sale in India since 2014, and Triumph had updated the Explorer range with the new variants in 2016. The 1215 cc in-line triple engine has been carried forward to the updated model, but now makes marginally more power and torque - 137 bhp and 123 Nm, respectively. The engine also meets the latest Euro 4 emission regulations. There are three new selectable rider modes - Road, Rain and Off-Road, which incorporate different settings for ABS, traction control and throttle maps, each optimised to suit the selected mode for maximum control.
The Tiger Explorer XCx gets updates to the engine and a long list of electronic rider aids
The new Tiger Explorer XCx uses a hydraulic torque assist clutch to reduce lever effort and riding fatigue. The six-speed gearbox has a top gear set high to make cruising long distances both easy and fuel efficient. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel through a final shaft drive. Triumph's electronically controlled semi-active suspension (TSAS) continuously adjusts the suspension settings on the move, delivering the best comfort and riding experience on any surface. The new Tiger Explorer also features an inertial measurement unit (IMU), cornering ABS and traction control. The IMU has strategically positioned sensors which monitors the bike's movements, calculates the lean angle of the bike, and uses this measurement to optimise the performance of the ABS and traction control.
The new Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx gets a complete update and comes with all the electronic rider aids of a modern-day motorcycle. At around Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tiger Explorer XCx isn't what you'd call an affordable adventure bike. And with rivals like the Ducati Multistrada 1200S and the BMW R 1200 GS, both priced lower than the new Tiger Explorer XCx, Triumph should explore the assembly route to make it more accessible and more competitive in the booming adventure touring segment.
