Hosur-based TVS Motor Company announced its revenue growth for the second quarter of the 2017-18 financial year. The two-wheeler manufacturer reported a revenue growth of 18.2 per cent for Q2 of FY2018 that ended on September 2017. The revenue excluding excise duty/GST grew to Rs. 4098 crore during the same period, up from Rs. 3465.7 crore that was registered in the Q2 of FY2017. TVS' profit before tax (PBT) registered a growth of 26.8 per cent at 296.8 crore, up from Rs. 234 crore recorded during the second quarter of the previous financial year. The company's Profit after Tax (PAT) increased by 20.2 per cent to Rs, 213.2 crore, from Rs 177.4 crore in the corresponding period last year.
With respect to sales, TVS' overall two-wheeler sales including exports grew by 16.1 per cent to 9.23 lakh units in the second quarter of FY2018, up from 7.95 lakh units that were registered during the same period last year. Motorcycle sales stood at 3.65 lakh units, up by 9.9 per cent, when compared to the 3.32 lakh units registered in Q2 of FY2017.
Scooter sales, on the other hand, increased to 3.28 lakh units, a healthy growth of 43.2 per cent from 2.29 lakh units sold in in the second quarter of 2016-17 financial year.
Exports from TVS included 1.48 lakh units of two and three wheelers for the this Q2, as against 1.12 lakh units that were shipped in the second quarter of 2016-17. Thereby registering a growth of 32.1 per cent. Three wheelers sales recorded a growth of 23.8 per cent to 25,248 units as against 20,401 units sold in Q2 of 2016-17.
For the first half of FY2018, TVS' two-wheeler sales stood at 17.08 lakh units, as against 14.96 lakh units registered between April-September 2016, growing by 14.2 per cent. Scooter sales grew by 37.6 per cent during H1 at 5.86 lakh units, as opposed to 4.26 lakh units sold during first half of the last financial year. Motorcycle sales for the year grew by 13 per cent to 6.95 lakh units as against 6.15 lakh units sold during H1 of FY2017.
Two and three-wheeler exports increased to 2.73 lakh units in the half-year ended September 2017 as against 2.16 lakh units in the half-year ended September 2016 registering a growth of 26.4 per cent. Three-wheeler sales for H1 grew by 12 per cent to 42,285 units as against 37,738 units in the half-year ended September 2016.
