A lot is happening in the Indian auto space as far as launches are concerned, and it is good news for all of us. Sedans have managed to have the excitement going throughout the year despite people gradually moving towards SUVs. From the Honda Amaze facelift to the Tata Tigor EV, the carmakers were up in the game, as we saw some major launches across the segment. The luxury carmakers didn't take the back seat, and there were plenty of launches. We take a look at the upcoming sedans in 2022 and hope they will keep up with the excitement.
Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia is an official replacement for the Rapid sedan
The upcoming Skoda Slavia will be the company's first sedan to be built on the MQB A0-IN platform shared with the Kushaq and VW Taigun. Expected to go on sale in India in Q1, 2022, the sedan comes as an official replacement for the Rapid sedan. It will get the same 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI unit, powering the Kushaq SUV. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, along with an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter (1.0L) and a 7-speed DSG automatic (1.5L).
Tata Tigor CNG
The CNG-powered Tata Tigor is expected to be launched in India next month
The CNG-powered Tigor subcompact sedan is expected to go on sale in the country soon, probably next month. The Tigor CNG has been eagerly awaited in the Indian car market ever since it was spotted in India earlier this year. It is expected to get the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that makes 85 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. When launched, the Tigor CNG will take on the Hyundai Aura CNG.
Toyota Belta
The upcoming Toyota Belta will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
Toyota plans to introduce the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz-based compact sedan in India next year. It will step in place of the now-discontinued Yaris. The Japanese carmaker unveiled the Toyota Belta for the Middle-East markets ahead of its domestic debut. It will get the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that belts out 103 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque.
Volkswagen Virtus
The Volkswagen Virtus will be based on the company's MQB A0-IN platform

Volkswagen is also working on the Virtus compact sedan, which will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform. The sedan will come as a replacement for the Vento in the brand's line-up. The car is likely to share its powertrain options with the Taigun. It is expected to be launched in the first half of 2022. Once launched, the sedan will compete with the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to go on sale in India by H2 2022.
Mercedes-Benz will introduce the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan in the second half of 2022. The model will be a bit more spacious on the inside with a 25 mm longer wheelbase measuring 2865 mm. Moreover, the sedan will be 65 mm longer and 10 mm wider when compared to the outgoing model. It is expected to be powered by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel and a 2.0-litre diesel along with a 48V belt-integrated starter generator. It will compete against BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and the Jaguar XE.
