The upcoming micro SUV from Tata Motors, codenamed Tata HBX, has yet again been spotted testing in India. The new entry-level SUV from Tata, which will be positioned below the Nexon, appears to be nearing the production-ready stage and is expected to be launched by the end of 2021. While the model in the photos is still heavily camouflaged, the HBX prototype does seem to come with several production-ready parts, which appear to be similar to what we saw on the concept car at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Tata HBX will be based on the Agile Light Flexible Advanced' or ALFA architecture, which currently underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. Styling-wise, based on previous spy photos, we can say that the HBX borrow some of the cues from its elder siblings like the Nexon and the Safari. In fact, we believe the production version could even look like a descaled version of the latter. Upon its launch, the new Tata HBX will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Renault Kwid.
The Tata HBX will come with small taillamps, a muscular tailgate and what appears to be a heavily cladded rear bumper.

At the rear, the micro SUV will come with compact wraparound taillamps, possibly featuring LED lighting. It also gets a muscular tailgate and what appears to be a heavily cladded bumper. While we don't get to see the profile or front section of the HBX, based on previous spy photos, the car will come with a floating-style roof design with blacked-out pillars. The front section will get a split lighting setup with the main headlamps housed closer to the bumper, while the LED daytime running lamps are positioned above, flanking the grille.

Inside, the Tata HBX will come with an all-black cabin, featuring a flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, a large instrument cluster with a MID unit, a start-stop button, and a small stick-out display similar to the one on the Nexon. It's likely to feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

Under the hood, the production version of the Tata HBX is expected to come with a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor that also powers the Tata Altroz. The engine is tuned to produce 85 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. As for transmission duties, the HBX is expected to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox and optional an AMT unit as well.
