Swedish motorcycle brand Husqvarna, part of KTM's parent company Pierer Mobility, seems set to introduce an updated version of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. The Svartpilen 401, based on the KTM 390 Duke, has been quite popular in European markets, since it was launched in 2018, but has not been introduced in India so far. Now, latest spy shots indicate that the updated Svartpilen 401 will be getting a new engine, which appears to be the same as the one on the next generation KTM 390 Duke and KTM RC 390.

The bike features minor cosmetic changes, as well as a new engine and trellis frame
The cases of the engine appear to have been changed in the test mule spotted in the spy shots, although it's difficult to say what changes could have ben done to the internals. With an update to meet the Euro 5 regulations, and beyond, there could be a slight increase in displacement, but it's unlikely to have gotten an increase in power output. The Svartpilen 401, as well as the KTM 390 Duke, are designed to be A2 licence friendly in Europe, to meet the requirements of beginner licences, with maximum power limited to 47 bhp.

The rear sub-frame, swingarm, and engine cases look different on the test bike
The updated engine seems to be mounted on a new steel trellis frame, and there's also a matching new subframe. Also new is the swingarm, which looks lighter than the one on the current model. There's also a few other changes, including a small fly screen at the front, a new radial front brake caliper for better braking power. More details are expected in the coming months, but a production model is expected only in early 2022. So far, there's no word on when Husqvarna India will launch the 401 Svartpilen and Vitpilen in India. Currently, Husqvarna India only offer the KTM 250 Duke derived Vitpilen and Svartpilen on sale in the Indian market.
