The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the monthly vehicle registration data for September 2021. The total number of vehicles registered in the country stood at 12,96,257 units, which is a decline of 5.27 per cent in comparison to the 13,68,307 units registered in the corresponding month in 2020. When compared to September 2019, the overall vehicle retails fell by 13.50 per cent. The auto industry witnessed a month-on-month decline of 11 per cent compared to 13,84,711 units sold in August 2021.

Commenting on the Industry's performance, FADA President, Vinkesh Gulati said, "Auto retail in the month of September has taken a pause as overall sales were down by -5%. During the 1st half of this FY, while the overall retails were up by 35%, the same was down by -29% when compared to 2019, a pre-covid year. On a long term basis, except tractors which grew by 19% and PV which has almost reached pre-covid levels, all the other segments were in red."
Last month, total passenger vehicle sales stood at over 2.33 lakh units
Total passenger vehicle registration for the month of September 2021 stood at 2,33,308 vehicles, a growth of 16.32 per cent, as compared to the 2,00,576 vehicles registered during the same month last year. Compared to September 2019, total passenger vehicle registrations saw a growth of over 30 per cent. As for the MoM scenario, the total retail sale has declined by 7.9 per cent when compared to 2,53,363 units sold in August this year.
Gulati further added, "As we enter the core of this year's festive season, the full blown semiconductor crises continues to create hindrance in PV sales as vehicle inventory at dealers end dip to record lows of 15-20 days during the current fiscal. With high demand in this segment, long waiting period continues to frustrate and keep enthusiast buyers in a fix."

Two-Wheeler retail sales fell by 11.54 per cent at 914,324 units in September 2021
In the two-wheeler sector, retail sales fell by 11.54 per cent at 914,324 units last month, as against 10,33,895 units in September 2020. However, compared to the 9,76,051 units sold in August 2021, the segment recorded an MoM decline of 6.3 per cent.
Commercial vehicles sales grew by 46.64 per cent to 58,820 units last month, up from 40,112 units in the same month last year. However, the CV segment saw an MoM growth of 10.6 per cent in August, against 53,150 sold in August 2021. Total tractor sales stood at 52,896 units, a 23.85 per cent drop compared to 69,462 units sold in the month last year. However, compared to 71,737 units sold in August 2021, the industry recorded an MoM decline of over 26 per cent.
