VW Doesn't Comply with Indian Emission Norms, Says Anant Geete
Union Heavy Industries Minister, Anant Geete stated today that Volkswagen does not comply with Indian emission norms and the government will chalk out a plan of action once it receives a response in written from the company.

Volkswagen on the other hand had assured of complying with the Indian emission norms and had also apologized for making “big mistakes”.
Geete further said that the government has asked Volkswagen to conduct a recall for affected vehicles. Jurgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Passenger Board Member of Sales and Marketing, had yesterday apologized for the emission glitch but he maintained that VW cars are in line with the norms followed in India. Furthermore, he also suggested a voluntary recall for around 3 lakh vehicles in the country. He mentioned that the company will give same upgrade to the customers in India as they did in Europe.
Volkswagen is planning an engine update for all the 3 lakh diesel powered vehicles in India which the company recalled in India as directed by the government after finding a faulty device fitted in the diesel engines to cheat emission tests. The recall was announced by Volkswagen for all 3,23,700 lakh vehicles under its brands Skoda, Volkswagen and Audi produced between 2008 till November 2015.
Volkswagen had agreed using defeat device in around 11 million diesel powered cars across US, Europe and other international markets. The use of defeat device in diesel engines allowed clearing emission tests by altering the performance of the cars. The US department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the company which could incur VW a heavy fine of up to USD 90 billion in US.
