Volkswagen India is all set to launch the Taigun Compact SUV in India and today has announced the date as well. The company will launch the Taigun on September 23, 2021. Pre-bookings for the Taigun have already begun in the country and we'll soon know the price of the car. For now, we have just driven the 1.5-litre engine on the Taigun and we'll soon get a chance to drive the 1-litre variant as well.

The Volkswagen Taigun is based on the MQB A0 IN platform specifically developed for India and the model will see over 93 per cent local content going in. In terms of looks, the Volkswagen Taigun is in line with the carmaker's latest design language, with sharp edges and bold character lines generous use of chrome, especially on the top-spec GT variant. It also comes with premium elements like LED headlights, LED daytime running lamps, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, conjoined LED taillight with sporty black elements, and beefy cladding with chrome inserts, and faux skid plates, giving it a very upmarket appeal.

The cabin of the Taigun is finished with a dual-tone cabin with a black and grey interior, featuring a 10-inch touchscreen display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a fully digital instrument cluster. VW also offers optional body-coloured dash panelling, along with other features like wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charger, electric sunroof and rear AC vents among others. On the safety front, the SUV comes with 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, ISOFIX mounts, rear parking camera, ABS, and six airbags among others.
The Taigun will be made available with two turbocharged petrol engines
The Volkswagen Taigun is offered with two turbocharged petrol engine options - the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI motor and a 1.5-litre, four-litre TSI engine. The former is tuned to make 113 bhp and 175 Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual and an optional six-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI unit belts out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, while paired with a six-speed manual and a seven-Speed DSG automatic transmission.
