The all-new Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV recently went on sale in India, with prices starting at Rs. 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The SUV marks the entry of the German carmaker in India's highly competitive compact SUV space. The Taigun is based on the highly localised MQB-A0 IN platform is also shared by the Kushaq. The SUV competes against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos as well as Skoda Kushaq. We already gave you a detailed specification comparison of these compact SUVs, and we now have their ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures as well. Here's how they fare up against each other in terms of fuel efficiency.

The Volkswagen Taigun SUV is offered with a choice of two petrol engines - 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI EVO.
As the Volkswagen Taigun is a petrol-only SUV, we'll only consider the fuel efficiency of the petrol engines. Both Taigun and Kushaq get the same set of 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI engines, and interestingly Creta also shares its platform and engines with its cousin - the Seltos. Both the SUVs come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated motor and a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine.

The Taigun's 1.0-litre TSI engine comes paired with 6-speed manual gearbox is claimed to deliver an ARAI certified mileage of 18.10 kmpl whereas the 1.5-litre TSI EVO unit is mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox returns a fuel efficiency of 18.47 kmpl. The 1.0-litre TSI 6-speed AT and 1.5-Litre TSI EVO 7-speed DSG variants of the Taigun are claimed to offer a mileage of 16.44 kmpl and 17.88 kmpl, respectively. The Taigun's 1.5-litre TSI MT variant is the most fuel-efficient of the lot, followed by the 1.0-litre MT version.

The Hyundai Creta SUV also shares its platform and transmissions with the Kia Seltos.
The Skoda Kushaq 1.0-litre TSI is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that delivers 17.88 kmpl mileage, whereas the bigger 1.5-litre TSI with 6-speed manual transmission is claimed to deliver 17.95 kmpl of mileage. The 1.0-litre TSI 6-speed and 1.5-litre TSI 7-speed DSG versions of the Kushaq SUV offer 15.78 kmpl and 17.70 kmpl of fuel efficiency, respectively.
The Kia Seltos comes with a choice of 1.5-litre and 1.4-litre petrol mills. The 1.5-litre 6MT returns 16.1 kmpl mileage, whereas the 1.5-litre iMT unit and 1.4-litre T-GDi 6MT offer 16.5 kmpl of mileage. The automatic variants of the Seltos with 6-speed iVT (1.5-litre) and a 7-speed DCT (1.4-litre) return a fuel efficiency of 16.8 kmpl and 16.5 kmpl. Both 1.5-litre 6MT and 1.4-litre 7DCT variants of the Hyundai Creta deliver a mileage of 16.8 kmpl. However, the 1.5-litre iVT variant returns a fuel efficiency of 16.9 kmpl.
